Name: John Smith
Series: Doctor Who, Tennant Era
Gender: Male
Age and year/Age and job: 30s History of Magic Professor
Appearance: Short brown hair, long sideburns. Always wears a blue or brown suit, often with a trenchcoat, as well as appropriate neckwear. He usually has serious eyes and a furrowed brow, but is capable of smiling in times of levity. Also, cleanly shaven.
Personality: John Smith is an old man in a young man’s body. He has the experience of nearly a thousand years of life, but doesn’t appear to be a day over 35. The Doctor is capable of making judgements that can alter time, for better of for worse. His morals are often inhuman and appear to be cold. This character has a history throughout the universe, but seems to be attached to humans, probably because of their similar appearance to his own race. For company, he brings one or two of these humans along, using them to feed his ego. Using his time machine, the Doctor shows off the glory of the universe to these companions, and is often having to fix what he perceives as disturbances in the time line. He is often lonely and depressed, even with these companions, as he committed the genocide of his race.
Due to his nearly thousand year-long life, the Doctor is often arrogant, and proclaims his pacisfism. Despite this, the races and events he has interfered with has often led to these races becoming his enemies. He is often very short-sighted and accidently ruins the people’s lives he interacts with. His companions are often the most affected, and as a result die, or worse. This adds to the Doctor’s depression, continuing his cycles of highs and lows. Another factor in his depression is his inability to change fixed events, including genocides and deaths.
Canon history: The Doctor is a Timelord, the last of his race. His real name is unknown but to a select few. Being a Timelord, he is in tune with the happenings in time, and using his time machine known as a T.A.R.D.I.S., he can visit periods in time, but not on his own time machine unless it happens accidently. His nine-hundred years of life are made possible by his ability to regenerate an unknown number of times, as well as each individual body being able to outlast a human, in age and durability. He and his companions often spend relative years together, adventuring through time and space.

AU history: John Smith is a pureblood, but an orphan and doesn’t remember his parents. He grew up in Muggle society, even while knowing his magical heritage. He entered Hogwarts at the normal age, but started to attend summer classes at muggle colleges at fifteen, interested in both science and magic. When accepted into Hogwarts, he was ecstatic at a chance of a challenge. His status as a wizard has caused strange events to happen around him occasionally, causing him to be somewhat of a social recluse, especially with Muggles. This caused him to spend late nights alone, tinkering with some of the possessions he inherited from his parents.
He graduated from Hogwarts with middling grades despite being extremely intelligent, as he was often distracted with side projects and being late to class. His main area of expertise is in history, Muggle and Magical. In his Muggle college courses, he became interested in watchmaking and gearworks. During his time at Hogwarts as a student, John Smith had a few close friends, but drifted away after they graduated.
Smith was hired at Hogwarts at the age of 35, to be a Professor of Magical History.
House: Smith was placed in Ravenclaw when he attended school, as the Sorting Hat noticed the above-average intelligence of the boy, despite his laziness, which is mostly due to his belief that most of the work given to him is below him. His meddling with some of his parent’s magical possessions has also influenced this laziness.
Magical Strengths and Weaknesses:What types of magic they excel in and types they don't.
Smith was never adept at combat-oriented magic, but his practical knowledge was nearly unmatched in his year. Potions was one of his strong suits, praised by his professor. As a result, Smith was also a natural at Herbology. Charms are his speciality, actually being able to master several of them to the point of casting these by voice alone. He also has a natural aptitude for Astrology and Divination, but never rigorously pursued them.
Wand: Eight inches long, a heavy oak. It has a core of dragon heartstring. It is a stiff wand, rubbed smooth after years of use. John has a tendency to play with it, flipping it and catching it.
Other: John Smith’s interactions with the objects left behind by his parents, including a malfunctioning time turner, have actually caused him to age slightly slower than a normal person, although this effect is not very pronounced. The malfunctioning time turner has caused him to have visions of the past, especially during his sleep. As a result, he has wondered whether or not his visions are actually recollections, and vigorously studied history as a result.
He has a tendency to wear Muggle formal wear rather than the robes preferred by other wizards.

John Smith strolled into the classroom, adjusting his suit as he walked by the rows of students. He eyed them, wondering what kind of academic stars he might encounter this year. He automatically picked his wand from his pocket, tossing it from hand to hand. Noticing a couple of students chattering near the back, he snapped his fingers, making them silent with a charm. He reached the front of the classroom, where an old desk stood, the same that was there even in his day at the school. It was clean, but only because the semester had just begun. Smith tapped the free-standing chalkboard with his wand, causing an explosion of words on it. They read: “Welcome to the History of Magic, with Professor John Smith.”
Addressing his students, he greeted them, and called role. Apparently, he had gone to school with one or two of the children’s parents, who he remembered fondly. Smith thought to himself that they probably didn’t remember him, so he just let old memories lie. As he called role, he made sure that each of them had all of the necessary supplies. Smith set them to work getting to know each other and choosing a partner, setting down and putting his feet up on his desk.
Ten minutes later, the students had all chosen a partner, and upon seeing this, Smith got up, straightened his jacket, and announced a page number to the class. He strutted over to the board again, magically wiping it clean, and quickly began to instruct them on some basic themes of Wizarding History. As he tapped his wand on the board, Smith noticed that his watch wasn’t moving, so he tapped it twice, hearing the incessant tick-tock of the clock that had never left him in his memory. After all, there wasn’t much time to prepare, and there was lots to do.
Professor John Smith is a lone soul, searching for a purpose in life. Most things come easily to him, except relationships. The one thing he has never been able to keep is his friendships, and it's often his own fault. He has a superiority complex and his genius can appear to be snide, but only because he loves to show off. He likes to lead when he can, which is part of why he became a teacher.
Boggart: A problem he can't solve.
