Appearance: Izaya is roughly 5'9" tall, and weighs roughly 128 lbs. He has raven black hair and red eyes (though they can appear brown/grey in alternating lights). He is of Japanese origin, though he has lived in England for the greater portion of his life.

Personality: Izaya could probably be accurately described as batshit insane. He sways between acting childishly and being a cold, calculating and rather cruel bastard on a regular basis, and varying levels in between depending on his mood and day. He has a fascination for humans, and proclaims a "love for all humanity". However, this does not apply to individual people and so it has left him relatively friendless coupled with his actions towards humanity. It very much takes the form of setting up situations that put people in varying levels of discomfort/pain and seeing how they react, oftentimes resulting in said person or their friends being injured or put through trauma. He is very detached from humanity it seems, despite his love for them, and he does occasionally refer to himself as a 'god'.
That being said, Izaya is a person who always likes to know what is going on in his environment. He is a dealer of information, and just about anything he knows (about others, of course) can become available if you can pay him the right price or offer him a choice tidbit back. He knows quite a bit about what is going on, and a lot of times this tends to be because he is the ringleader behind it in some way, shape, or form. Life is a game, and he loves to play it and change the rules to fit his fancy. That being said, he's not always the most fair or easy to deal with. It tends to be a "his way or the highway" if you are seen as beneath him, or not worth his effort to respect.
He does have a childish and almost energetic side to him, and has more than a few weird quirks about him. He loses focus and gets bored rather easily if things don't change, and so even if he does pick a student to follow, this often changes unless they are spectacular because he gets bored with it. He has a fascination for fur trim, and it can be seen making an appearance in his outfits. On this vein, he is entirely selfish and really looks out only for himself. It is a little known fact, but he harbors jealousy for those types of heroes who can put themselves on the line for others, because he is very aware that he would never be able to do so. Izaya fears death above all else, and thus he does work tirelessly to find some way to prolong life or stay away from death (though not quite to the extremes of Voldemort. He wants his soul to stay in one piece, thank you).

He also loves humans and just tends to like to screw with everyone.

Both of his parents were wizards who worked for some department of the Ministry and travelled quite often, so when he was fairly young he was transplanted from the city he loved to England, where his parents decided to put up a 'permanent' residence. This essentially meant that they bought a nice house and hired a nanny or two and a house staff who took care of the boy and gave them an excuse to never be home. Izaya began to harbor a disdain and lack of respect for his parents at a young age, and quickly discarded such frivolous titles for them as 'mother' and 'father'. They were never home, so what did it matter? Around his eighth year of life his parents brought home two new bundles of joy in the forms of his twin sisters, and so the house became a bit more crowded and he now had two squealing brats to deal with. He never cared much for his sisters, and so at the moment they have very little fondness towards each other (and it doesn't help he's their professor now).
It was probably this lack of supervision by true parents that led him to develop such an odd and almost antisocial personality. But from a very young age he knew that he would have magic, too, and it often came out in the worst of ways. He was a mischievious little boy, and so it often manifested itself in trying to inspire reactions from other children around him, thus causing fear or very odd things to happen. This only pushed people further away from him as a child.
When he was reaching the age of eleven he received a letter to attend Hogwarts, and his parents were glad for the opportunity to shove him off yet again. Izaya was resentful at first, but soon came to be excited by the prospect of learning to further his gifts and being around more exciting people. He wanted to learn, and more importantly he wanted to stretch his talents in a bigger pool of people. He was sorted into Slytherin at Hogwarts, and caused quite a bit of mischief while he was in school there (and really only made one friend, in the form of Shinra Kishintani). He also made his share of enemies, as well as later contacts who would be important to his ability to keep in the know of the Wizarding World.
When he graduated from Hogwarts he spent a few years travelling and getting to know more about the finer tunings of the Wizarding World, as well as heightening his knowledge of magic that might help to put off death and prolong life. He became quite knowledgeable with potions and draughts, and so when he returned to Hogwarts, desiring to teach in the familiar environment (and it was also a good place to continue his own studies), he took on the role of the Potions Master and Professor. His boggart takes the form of his own corpse, a physical manifestation of his fear of death.

Magical Strengths and Weaknesses: Izaya is a fairly strong wizard all around, however his strength and prowess lie in the art of Potionmaking. He is a talented at duelling, though his lines on acceptable magic to use can at times be questionable. His weakness lies in Divination, which he sees as more superstitious than actually useful. He also has little knowledge of magical creatures besides what parts of them might be useful for potionmaking, as he doesn't much care for creatures.
Wand: A holly wand. In length, it is just a bit over eleven and three quarters inches long. This wand's core is griffin bone.
Other: His robe has fur-trimmings on the hood, sleeves and ends of a tan color, though the rest of his robe is the traditional black.

Professor Orihara was currently in his classroom. The first years would be coming to their very first class soon and he was preparing for the fresh batch of students. New first years meant new people to get accustomed to and new stories to learn. He loved the beginning of the year! He had to refrain from skipping up and down the aisles of the classroom as he put down various random ingredients on each table. They could start things off by learning to identify a few simple ingredients. It was also a good way of finding out who was from what background. He could weed out the knowledgeable from the students he would probably not see continue in his class after O.W.L.s. Pity.
He hummed softly as he finished placing out the ingredients he had in mind, and turned to survey the classroom. He took in a deep breath of the dungeon air. Ah, the Hogwarts dungeons were far too much of a home for the professor. After feeling that everything was flawlessly in place for their arrival, he turned his back to the classroom and whipped out his wand, using it to cause the chalk to glide across the chalkboard and write his welcome message to the students.
When the message was finished he sat down at his desk, waiting for the students to begin trickling in. He loved the first day of school! So much excitement and so many new faces! First years were his favorite part of it all, and the day would continue with his more veteran students. It was going to be an exciting, lovely day!
