Sorry for the late, but here are the details on the dance and the dementor event! The dance thread itself has just been posted and the dementors will be introduced on the 31st. If you have any questions about the event, this is the place to ask!
The Patronus Charm
When Harry was able to produce a ‘corporeal’ patronus in his third year and the summer before his fifth, the adult wizards were highly impressed with him. However, most adult wizards seem to be able to produce a proper patronus. Since we didn’t see the kids learning the spell at school, it’s the belief of the mods that Hogwarts students learn the patronus charm in either fifth year (and Umbridge didn’t let them) or seventh year (and Harry and friends missed it because they were capering in the woods in the last book).
So that’s our reasoning for this rule: only students fifth year and up should be able to produce a patronus at this time.
If your character is younger than that and you think your character should know it because you have a very good reason, pm the admin account (Clow Reed) and present your case. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis and only in the presence of a very well-thought out excuse.
During the event, an older student or teacher may attempt to teach younger students the spell, but only 3rd and 4th years will be able to produce a corporeal patronus (one shaped like an animal). 1st and 2nd years will only be capable of producing a white haze that does protect them but doesn’t drive the dementor away. Even for 3rd and 4th year students this should be a very difficult thing to do. It took Harry weeks to learn it in the books; your character will have to try very, very hard in order to learn it in hours.
The Dementors
The dementors will be played from the admin account (Clow Reed). Players cannot control them, so please don’t state one is coming for your character if the admin has not said this is the case. In the same vein, don’t proclaim a dementor defeated until the admin has said it is. We realize this will result in slight delay as the admin tries to keep track of everyone and respond accordingly, and ask that you be patient in the dementor reacting to your posts.
The Dance itself
The dance is both a formal dance and a costume party. What the character wears is up to them; a more fun-loving character may go for a costume, while a more dignified character may think that beneath them and wear dress robes instead. A particularly strict teacher may pull a student aside and scold them for wearing something too provocative, as a warning. This is still a school function, even if it is pretty much the most chill school ever!
As for music, the type played depends on the characters themselves! The wizard DJ will be taking requests; if you request a muggle song please be prepared for him to have no clue what you’re talking about.
The dance is also the food source for the evening, so even if a student does not intend to stay, they’ll probably drop by anyway to grab some food. Prefects are encouraged to attend the dance, and are supposed to keep an eye on their fellow students but well...we know how well that works XD Similarly, teachers are supposed to attend to chaperon, but their willingness to police the kids depends entirely on the character.
