Vincent shrugged and went back to his own mug, feeling oddly emotional for someone who was usually so stoic. "I suppose so." He took a sip and eyed the Count. He wasn't going to lie, he was a rather attractive man. He felt his cheeks flush, something easily noticeable on his unusually pale skin. He pulled up the collar of his cloak, hoping the other man hadn't noticed.

Count, being the observant little tart he is, saw the pink flush. He pretended not to notice, so as to not have one of his own. "I'm very glad we've met, Vincent. It seemed that making friends here was near to impossible for me." He sighed. "The last friend I had was pretty annoying.."

Vincent raised an eyebrow in mild curiosity. "Your last friend? You can't say something like that and not expect me to be somewhat curious about that."

The Count chuckled. "Of course. He was a detective; Officer Orcott. I would simply call him Detective, however. He would come by my shop almost every day, accusing me of one crime or another. I suppose he didn't get a very good feeling from me."

Vincent eyed the Count with a renewed interest. "I wouldn't understand how anyone could find suspicion in you." He took a sip from his tea. "You seem like a generally agreeable fellow. Then again, that could just be me."

"I typically am. It's just that a lot of people that went missing, or died, happened to be customers of mine." He hummed. "But my shop was very popular, I had many customers. How would I know what was going to happen to them?"

"If we all knew how things were going to go in our lives, we'd probably lead very different lives." Vincent shrugged and took another sip from his mug. "Besides, just because they were your customers doesn't automatically link them to you."

Count D nodded. "Yes, thank you. But the detective didn't seem to think so. But, he and I did become friends eventually. He seemed quite sad when I moved away, but that's alright. He'll move on."

Vincent smiled lightly and nodded. "It only makes sense that he'd be sad. A good friend never wants to see those he cares about leave."

The Count smiled, but remained silent. He didn't know such a feeling; when his father left, he didn't much care about anyone else so strongly.

Vincent shrugged and closed his eyes, leaning back into his chair. He looked over once more at the man with one eye, half-examining him. Something about him... Vincent shook his head. He hadn't been feeling the same lately. "Say, Count. Have you ever had a special someone? A significant other?"

Count D shook his head, his face becoming a bit saddened. "No, I haven't. I thought I did, at one time, but it didn't turn out very well." He sipped his tea, before looking over at Vincent. "Is that what you had with your wife?"

Vincent nodded slightly. "I suppose it was. I loved her, she loved me, we even had plans on raising a family together." He smiled wistfully. "Of course, none of that came about. She died of cancer, I was fired from my old job, and now here I am, a 60-year old widower with no love life to speak of."

"Oh my, you're 60?" The Count looked over the man's features carefully, "You don't look a day over 30, Vincent."

Vincent self-conciously reached for his face. "Do I really look that young? I never really noticed myself..." He frowned and scratched the back of his head. "I guess I have good genes."
