((Let the brain breakage begin!))
Edge walked through the snow-covered grounds, his expression a mix of confusion and concern. He was supposed to have received a letter from his parents a few days ago, and it still hadn't arrived. As long as he'd been at Hogwarts, he'd never gotten a single late letter. Ever. He ran his fingers through his hair, sighing. "Chill, Edge. They probably just forgot. Hopefully..."

Trekking through the snow was never a pleasant thing for Shion. It always got into her socks and shoes, and made her so cold! But it was beautiful and pleasant, so that was fine. She happened upon her- rather sullen looking -boyfriend, and quickly made her way to his side. "Edge?"

Edge blinked. When had Shion gotten there...? He really was losing his touch. "Hi, Shion." He greeted halfheartedly. He smiled sadly, the emotion never quite reaching his eyes.

Kneeling beside him, Shion placed a hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

Edge sighed and placed his hand over hers. "I'm worried. I haven't gotten any news from my family in a while, and they usually send letters weekly." He stood and wrapped an arm around Shion, his expression one of worry. "It's really out of character for them to NOT send me anything for so long..."

Shion smiled with a soft laugh, before hugging his neck. "Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be here. It's been pretty bad weather, maybe the owls have been stuck." She stroked his hair gently, trying to comfort him.

Edge smiled lightly. "I suppose you're right. The weather has been worse than usual lately." He placed a light kiss on Shion's forehead, his expression considerably less upset. "Thanks."

With a smile, Shion sat beside him, and rested her head on his shoulder.

A single black feather floated down in front of the two, contrasting against the stark white of the snow. Edge glanced up and saw a familiar sight for him: a pitch-black crow, beady black eyes sunk deep into it's sockets, looking for a place to land. He extended his free arm and the ebony bird landed rather gracefully. "Kotaro... What are you doing here?" Edge mused.

"Kotaro?" She looked over the bird with interest. It was beautiful, to say the least. But it wasn't an owl. Shion glanced back over at Edge. "Your pet?"

Edge shook his head. "Not mine. My uncle Kotaro's. He found this bird with a broken wing and he nursed it back to health, naming it after himself. No one's sure why he did that." He petted the dark bird lightly. "Although that doesn't explain WHY he's here. He only shows up when..." His voice caught in his throat. "A family member's passed away..." He undid a scroll that was tied around the bird's leg and it flew away, a few stray feathers floating down.

"Oh.." Shion knew what could be coming may be bad. Tenderly, she gripped his arm, and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Well, maybe he's here for another reason..."

Nervously, Edge unfurled the scroll and sighed. "I honestly hope so. I really, really do." He began to read out loud. "Edge: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have to tell you this. Just a few days ago, the family home was burnt down. Most of the people living escaped, but..." He stopped. "...I can't read this. I just can't." A sob caught in his throat.

Shion's breathing hitched. Gently, she removed the letter from his hand, and read it to herself. "-but your parents couldn't make it in time... They loved you Edge, don't forget that. -Kotaro" With a whimper, she looked over at Edge, and released the letter to wrap her arms around him. "Edge, I'm so sorry..."

Tears streamed down Edge's face as he held Shion, his mind thoroughly and completely destroyed. All he could do was hold her and muttered "itcantbethemnotthemnotthemnotthemnotthem..."
((MIND: BROKEN))
