~Character Info~
Name: Remy Fournier
Series: Ratatoille (Disney movie)
Gender: Male
Age and year/Age and job: 26 / Muggle Studies Professor
Appearance:
- Human Form: Remy is a twig of a man, despite coming from a rather... big-boned bloodline. In height, he’s just a hair below average, and he is quite light as well. He’s got a head of short, neatly combed blue-grey hair, a small, curly mustache, and a pair of pince-nez spectacles. His wardrobe consists chiefly of rather simple robes, some of which bear a striking resemblance to a muggle chef’s attire. His favored colors in these robes seem to be white or black, occasionally with a tasteful accent of checkers. Lastly, while he has one in his office, he doesn’t wear his toque save for during classes in which he discusses muggle food, or while he’s actually cooking.
- Rat Form: Remy spends plenty of his time as a rat. As a registered animagus, he has the distinguishing mark of... Well, the most notable thing about him is that he walks on two feet. But a toque-shaped “birthmark” on his back, hard as it may be to see unless you were to shave him, is what he officially listed as his distinguishing marking. Otherwise, he’s a plain blue-grey rat with pink ears, nose, tail, and hands. His tail is fairly short and thin, and he also has expressive brown eyes.
Personality: Remy is, first and foremost, a dreamer. He’s always been one with his head not quite in the clouds, but definitely somewhere in the future. Always on the lookout for something better, one who didn’t know Remy well might say he was a snob, as he considers a great many things beneath him. However, he simply believes that he deserves better, and that the same goes for everyone else in the world. Mostly, this applies to food. And on that topic, Remy is clearly more than a bit obsessive when it comes to the edibles!
One would be hard-pressed to find someone as confident and strong-willed as Remy Fournier. He’s never been the type to back down from an argument of any sort, and his determination to triumph over adversity is to be admired. He’s quite clever, usually thinks that he knows best, and will rarely take “no” for an answer. Unfortunately, this comes with the downsides of reluctance to accept help from those not wildly above him in skill and a slight sense of superiority over his peers. Still, he does make outward attempts at modesty when asked about his skills.
This guy is enthusiastic to a fault and incredibly friendly to everyone that doesn’t look down on him or go out of their way to start a heated debate or argument. Curiosity can sometimes get the better of him. Indeed, he’s a risk-taker and will likely be the one to do something technically against the rules if he thinks it will pay off in the end. He definitely knows how to take the lead when the proverbial heat is on, and he’s been known to help out people in need on more than one occasion. On his worst days, Remy might be caught sulking, talking to himself (or, in this universe, his patronus), or maybe even plotting petty revenge against whomever may have wronged him. Of course, he’s been trying to stop acting childish in this way, but that’s easier said than done.
Canon history: Remy is a rat who dreams of becoming a chef. Born with keen senses of taste and smell, he always wanted more out of life than to steal garbage and live as a rat typically does. He was fascinated with humans, and especially their cooking. So, he decided to sneak into the kitchen of the old woman above whom his clan lived, and learn as much as he could about the humans' food. This all went horribly wrong one day when he and his brother, Emile, went looking for a spice and got caught by the lady. After brandishing a shotgun and firing madly into her own ceiling, the lady was mortified to see the clan come tumbling down from her broken ceiling. Naturally, the rats were forced to evacuate to the sewers.
During the escape, Remy became separated from his family and eventually wound up in the restaurant of his idol, the late Chef Gusteau. It was there that he met Linguini, a human through whom he was able to live his dream of becoming a master chef. The rat, otherwise known as the Little Chef, even helped Linguini to discover his heritage as Gusteau's son and take over the restaurant. Indeed, his friendship with the human was deep, yet still quite precarious. This only grew worse after Remy was reunited with his family and began to help them steal food from Gusteau's pantry. Unfortunately, Remy was eventually caught after he invited the entire clan to dinner in order to spite Linguini after a disagreement. He and the others were all casted out, and promised a true pest's fate should they ever return.
After this incident, Remy was captured by the enemy (a tiny man who would use Gusteau's image to sell frozen TV dinners) the day before the feared critic, Anton Ego, was to visit Gusteau's. His family freed him, and Remy returned to the restaurant to help Linguini with the critic. Surprisingly, Linguini came forward to defend the rat when he was about to be killed by the staff, and even admitted to the unlikely chef's place in the restaurant. Of course, they left, since they probably thought their boss had gone psycho bonkers at that point. Fortunately, Remy's father admitted to being wrong about some humans seeing rats as only pests, and had the clan help to save the restaurant by cooking and tying up the health inspector. From there, the review goes well, but the restaurant gets shut down because of the furry temp staff. Ego, impressed despite the Little Chef's humble origins, still helps Linguini, Remy, and another chef named Colette to open their own small bistro. Remy gets to cook for both rats and humans there, and gets a rather happy ending.

AU history:
Remy Fournier was born in rural France to a rather poor, but proudly pureblood family of wizards. His mother died of natural causes when he was very young, and so he and his brother were raised primarily by their father. However, a large group of extended family and friends lived along with them on their tiny property, and so it was far from just the three of them! Rather than growing their own food, family patriarch Django Fournier saw fit to steal crops from the local muggle farmers, and occasionally use his magic to con them out of money that could be used to buy essential supplies. This never sat well with Remy, especially since his family (save possibly for big brother Emile, who didn’t seem to care as long as there was food in his belly) had always seen muggles as inferior creatures. In contrast, Remy was absolutely fascinated with them, and went to great lengths to learn more about his wandless neighbors. Without permission, he went out and befriended some of the local muggles, and managed to find his true passion: cooking. One year when he was young, he was given a cookbook titled Anyone Can Cook by muggle chef Auguste Gusteau for his birthday. It was his prized possession, which he unfortunately lost during a move to Paris shortly after graduating from school.
When it came time for him to go to school at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Remy was an ideal student. Fairly quiet, attentive, and always eager to learn, he soaked up as much knowledge as he could in subjects that interested him, namely any of the ones involving muggles. His family could never really afford much in the way of supplies, but he was lucky enough to have a Transfiguration professor that helped pay his way. In fact, it was he that convinced young Remy to try and become an animagus. All in all, Remy had an excellent time in school, but frequently butted heads with his father after he returned home and got to discussing his Muggle Studies electives. One can imagine Django's anger when he found out that Remy planned to teach the subject later in life, if he didn't decide to live among them and abandon the wizarding world altogether!
During his young adult life after school, he was spying on a Parisian restaurant formerly owned by his idol, Auguste Gusteau, as a rat. Unfortunately, he got caught by a young garbage boy named Linguini and was nearly killed. In the end, Linguini couldn’t bear to kill the rat, and Remy was released and allowed to run away. Grateful for this second chance and generally curious, he returned as a human and began to attempt to teach the boy how to cook. Eventually, the garbage boy managed to take over the restaurant with Remy’s assistance –as he turned out to be Gusteau’s heir– and went head-to-head with a harsh critic. On the eve of the review, the entire staff save Linguini, a female chef, and Remy walked out after Remy accidentally displayed a bit of magic to stop a grease fire. Fortunately, they (mainly Remy) managed to amaze the critic with a serving of Ratatouille despite being so short-staffed. As it turned out, the critic knew of the wizarding world, and decided to help Remy open his own restaurant that served muggles and wizards alike. This marked a major turning point for Remy’s family, who at last gained a regular source of currency from the business and managed to move to Paris.
Now, one might assume that owning a restaurant would be Remy’s greatest dream. And for the most part, that’s correct. However, he decided to teach muggle studies after all, due to the fact that so many wizarding families are like his originally was: “muggle-phobic.” This is unacceptable to Remy, and he wants to leave a positive impact on the world. So while he still owns the bistro and fully intends to cook there during breaks, Remy has recently taken up a Muggle Studies Professor position at a school in Scotland. This will be his first year teaching at Hogwarts, and he is very eager to spread muggle tolerance –and awesome recipes– to the children learning there.
Despite being so fascinated with non-magical people, Remy's boggart is an incredibly violent old muggle woman with a gas mask and a shotgun. Only his father Django and brother Emile know that the woman actually exists, and that Remy was almost killed by her during some “field study.”
Oh, and his patronus is an obscenely round fat guy, who Remy swears is Auguste Gusteau. That may have something to do, of course, with his thinking of receiving his cook book whenever casting the spell.
House: N/A. He went to Beauxbatons. Because of this, he's quite unbiased when it comes to handing out and deducting points from the Hogwarts houses.
Magical Strengths and Weaknesses: Aside from being an expert on muggles, Remy's skilled at transfiguration, as he had to learn plenty about it when he was becoming an animagus. He's also decent at charms, and is an absolute natural with Potions and Herbology. As for weaknesses, Remy’s downright rubbish when it comes to Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, and Astronomy, and didn't particularly enjoy his studies in Care of Magical Creatures. Also, he never learned to Apparate.
Wand: An elegant vine wand. In length, it is eleven inches long. It has a core of unicorn tail hair.
Other:
- He speaks very good English, and has a fairly light French accent.
- If it’s not a problem, I would like to have him occasionally sneak into the kitchen and attempt to teach the house elves to cook some better dishes. Also, I can see him trying to magically place a kitchen in his office, but let me know if you think this is out of line.
- Oh, and I tried to stick a bit of canon into his AU history. If any other Ratatouille characters ever show up, I’d be more than willing to work things out so that everyone’s happy.

Remy couldn’t help but give the plate before him the side eye. The roast beef sat rather sloppily on the dish, seeming to ooze impossible amounts of sauce even as he watched it. It was making his bread downright soggy, and he didn’t even want to think about that mountain of casserole on the side of the plate. How in the world did people around here stand such huge servings? Well, he was sure his brother wouldn’t have minded it... He probably would’ve considered this Great Feast to be heaven! Emile always had valued quantity over quality.
Looking around, Remy started to realize -or possibly just imagine- that he was getting offended glances from the other staff sitting at the high table. A visiting chef not touching the food in front of him was an insult, as far as he was concerned. Not exactly the first impression that a new teacher would want to make on his coworkers. At last, the new Muggle Studies teacher managed to stab at the roast beef with a fork and shoved it as politely as he could into his mouth. It wasn’t terrible... But it could have been so much better. It was overcooked, and absolutely smothered in gravy. You could barely even taste the meat! It was almost as if they were trying to hide its flavor or something. Remy had to hold himself back from sighing after he swallowed. That cut had clearly had potential, if it had only been treated right. The meat itself could’ve had some interesting flavors brought out by spices. Oh, oh! And that plain old gravy could have been replaced with a hint of a wonderful sauce that he served to the muggle customers back at his bistro...
Oh, the bistro! Le Ratatouille. He was going to miss it while he was here, to be sure. The smells, the food, the customers... Not to mention that he was getting a little nervous about leaving the place in the care of his family, Ego, and a few young, albeit capable hires. He was also going to miss cooking for himself, as he wasn’t sure whoever was in charge of the food here at Hogwarts was quite to his liking... So far the few meals he'd had here fell pretty flat compared to what he was used to. Still, the throng of students in the Great Hall – especially the Hufflepuff table, as it was looking pretty crowded – helped to take his mind off of homesickness. Everyone looked so different, so exotic. A lot of the younger ones were probably nervous little first years. The thought made him want to laugh, in a nostalgic sort of way. Entering a new world like this one was always exciting. It could also be terrifying, sure, but it was still exciting nonetheless!
Remy tilted his head to the side, revealing an ever so slightly bucktoothed smile as he wondered how many of those kids were signed up for Muggle Studies this year. He simply couldn’t wait to teach them all of the wonderful things they might not know about the world beyond magic... Especially the juicy bits. That’s right; the ones involving food!
