Fenris sat by the stone fireplace, staring at its cold depths. The thing looked as if it had never been used, or hadn't in many years. The fireplace seemed to speak to him. It told him a story of an unused, looked-over piece of the world, much like Fenris himself felt sometimes. He sighed an sat down on an armchair, throwing his bags down on the floor and leaning back. He thought of home. His mother hadn't been able to look at him for a while. She tended to always have something to do when he was forced home for the summers. She was always cooking, or cleaning, or off shopping with friends. If he brought out a spellbook, or any other tome relating to Hogwarts, suddenly she'd be on the phone with his father, bemoaning their 'squib' status. And his father. He was even worse. At least Fenris got to see his mother when he was home. His father had a new job that took up 'an even portion of his days and most of his nights', which gave Candor Sr. an excellent reason to avoid his wizard son. By this point, Fenris was silently crying, and willed the Common Room to stay empty just a while longer.

The silence of the room was destroyed as Shion walked in, her heals clicking against the cold stone floor with each step. Her books in hand, she came prepared to study, but instead saw a lonely man sitting by the fire. "Oh, excuse me!" She blushed, only lightly, surely not enough to be seen, "I came here to study, so I promise I'll be very quiet. Just ignore me." With a smile, she took a seat in a chair across the room, in one of the more dark corners. This is just how she liked it.
She opened a book and began to read, or at least, pretend to do so. However, her eyes would wander to the fire, and old memories would arise, as they always did in these quiet times. Her fingers gripped the pages of her book, bending them, nearly ripping them, as her paranoid thoughts drug her deeper into the usual dark hole of her past. She would not make a noise, however, nor any movement, for while she was indeed lost in her own world, she was fully aware of the other person in the room.

Fenris felt his tears dry to the sied of his face almost as soon as her heard the girl's clicking boots. It was natural for him to disapate his feelings nearly instantly. He glanced over and saw her nearly about to rip her book in half. It was obvious that some old memory had brought her distress. He blinked, and cleared his throat. "Something I can help with?"

His voice shocked her out of her hypnotic state, and she looked at him, the sparkle in her eyes returning. "Oh, no thank you!" She smiled, slightly embarrassed, "I was just thinking of some old things." Her eyes flicked back to her book, and she realized that she had indeed torn the page slightly. "Oh, dear..."

"Are you alright?" Fenris stood. "Here, have some chocolate." He pulled a chocolate frog wrapper out of his bag and handed it to her. "It'll warm you up."

Shion watched him carefully, not quite being used to such kindness from a stranger. With a smile, she chirped "Oh, thank you!" and proceeded to take the chocolate frog from his hand. "This is very kind of you, Mr...?" She looked up at him questioningly.

Candor. Fenris Candor." He bowed, then straightened almost imediately. That was probably weird in normal conversation, wasn't it?

Rita came down from the girls dorms with her notebook and a few textbooks in tow and sat down in an armchair on the opposite side of the room from the other two students. Flipping open her notebook she found the spot on the page where she had left off, (somehow, seeing as how the page was filled with countless scrawls of complex looking formulas and equations-) and continued scratching away at the parchment with her quill, every now and then picking up bits and pieces of the other twos conversation. Ugh, she mentally groaned to herself. She never did like Shion. Her kindness and usually sweet demeanor always seemed way to fake for Rita.

With a grin, Shion bowed her head. "It's a pleasure to meet you Fenris. My name is Shion Sonozaki." She glanced at his cloak, then back up to his face. "I see you're in Slytherin as well? It's good to know I'm not alone!"

Rita had almost slammed her head into her notebook at that comment. 'Of course he's in Slytherin, this is the Slytherin Common Room!'

Shion looked to the female that entered the room, and shot her a kind smile, should she be looking, before returning her attention to Fenris. "So, ah, I do apologize for breaking you out of your thoughts..." But I'm glad you broke me out of mine...

Fenris smiled. "No problem. I needed someone to talk to. Sometimes one's own mind can be as scary as the darkness.

Shion was too quick to nod, and cast her eyes on the floor. “This is true…” She began to nosh on the chocolate frog, but broke off a leg, despite the frog’s squirms, and held it out to Fenris.

Rita took a moment to take a break from eavesdropping to pull her notes closer to her, examining them closely. Hmm......she set the notebook down on the arm chair and pulled out her wand, giving it an experimental flick, causing a few sparks to fly out with a faint 'whirrrr' sound and then dissipate into nothing. Staring into to the empty space where they had been for a few moments, she gave an understanding nod, and began adding yet more to the parchment, constantly checking back to the tip of her wand.

Fenris took the leg and turned to the girl behin him, just in time to watch her spell disappate. Was she having problems with magic as well? "Here." He held the leg out to her. A little offering of friendship was always helpful to people.
