When Marshall mentioned needing him, Gumball was worried, but only for a moment.
"I'm not going to ditch her, I'm taking her to the hospita--"
Just then, Charlotte yelled out and grabbed at the balloon. Which promptly burst. The water splattered both he and Marshall's robes, which slowly began to fade to white.
"Marshall!" His robe was probably ruined. He glanced over at Charlotte to see if she had also been affected.

Dazed, but only for a moment, Marshall just stared at the young girl, confused. Who did she think she was? In all his six years, this had never happened. See, people don't retaliate against Marshall. It just doesn't happen! ... Okay, so some people do, but definitely not first years! Thankfully, Gumball snapped him out of his angry thoughts, even if it was to yell at him.
"Marshall!"
"What?! I wasn't the one, she threw it!" Marshall shot an accusing glare towards Charlotte who only stuck her tongue out in retaliation. He threw his arms down, his robes were definitely ruined, not like it mattered, he'd still wear them. This was not going the way he had planned. At all.

"You were the one who had some strange cursed water balloon!" He rubbed at the shoulder of his robes. Yep. Definitely ruined. "Was this what you needed me for?"
Without waiting for an answer he turned to Charlotte, asking her, "are you alright? Did any of it hit you?"

"I don't think so..."
Charlotte pouted, looking herself over, confirming that none of the balloons contents had hit her. Her prince had gotten hit too... And she had ruined his robes! She swallowed hard, telling herself she wasn't going to cry. She... She had just ruined his robes, that was all! They're just silly robes! Just... Silly... And like that, she broke down crying. She hadn't meant to hurt her beloved prince! What if he hated her now?!
I don't think I could live with that!
She sobbed harder, her fantasies in her head coming crashing down. No ponies! No unicorns! No cute little bunnies! No pink! No wedding! No castle! No rainbows! No prince charming!

"What?? No!" Marshall ran a hand through his hair, the annoyance in his voice clearly showing through. This little brat ruined his wonderful prank and then threw that stupid balloon back at him! And then Gumball turned to her, making sure she was okay, as if she didn't do anything wrong! This was ridiculous. And now, she was crying about... About what? Absolutely nothing! He was never going to hear the end of this from Barnaby.

When she started crying, Gumball swung around to glare at Marshall, mouthing furiously at him, You made her cry! Then he turned back to the First Year to try and comfort her.
"Don't cry, Charlotte...Look, none got on you, your uniform is fine." He patted her head awkwardly, then pulled her into a light hug to see if it would help. Over her head, he shot Marshall another Look. The Slytherin was going to be in big trouble, there was no doubt about that.

"But... But... But..."
She could only sputter words out, not able to form a proper sentence. So her prince didn't seem to be that angry that she had pretty much ruined his robes... And anyway, most of the anger seemed to be directed at the other boy, Marshall apparently.... And that was definitely okay. No. She had to think sad things so her prince might hug her again!

Everything in his mind told him that he should just leave before either of them could yell at him-- He knew it was going to happen. But he told that smart part of his brain to shut up. He was gonna wait this out and defend his honor! Not like he had any honor left, really. But whatever. He wasn't going to go down without a fight. Neither of them could blame this [completely] on him. What had they expected? No wait... Nevermind. Don't answer that.
Gumball mouthed "You made her cry" to which Marshall Lee only rolled his eyes, sticking out his tongue like a four year old. Really? They were probably fake tears anyway. What was there for her to cry over? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Her robes were clean and she didn't get this plan she had been working on for hours ruined by some stupid first year! If anyone should be crying, it was him. But no, no... He was a man. And men don't cry over things so trivial. Actually, Gumball might cry later over his robe, but did he really qualify as a man? Maybe. That was debatable.

Gumball was not going to cry over his robes later, thank you very much. It was only his second favorite pair. Now, if it had been one of his sweaters, maaaaybe...but that was hardly the point.
And Charlotte still would not let go. After a few moments, he muttered, "I think you traumatized her," before continuing in a louder voice, "Charlotte, we should probably head to the hospital wing, don't you think?"

Can we just leave the bonehead here? He needs to go change his robes anyway, right?? Right!
Finally pulling back after a sniffle, Charlotte nodded slowly. Charlotte try to restrain a smile; another victory! She definitely won this battle and was well on her way to winning the war. There was no way she would lose to someone like Marshall anyway... Even his name sounded stupid!
Stick close to Gumball. Don't let him out of your sight. You'll win, don't you worry, Charlotte. You'll win.

"Great, let's go." He took her hand so that he could walk faster without leaving her behind.
"Marshall, you should change before class. You look like a ragamuffin."

The girl smiled, delighted to have him holding her hand. See, she wasn't holding his hand, he was holding her hand! The warm fuzzy butterflies were flying everywhere... So, in that case, they were probably more like warm, flying caterpillars... How strange... No. Not the point. The point was that her prince was holding her hand!
We're well on the way to getting married!
Charlotte smiled, glad to be rid of the dunce, once and for all! ... Hopefully. She turned around to see if he was still standing there shocked, sticking out her tongue, hoping her prince didn't see her acting so immature! Fighting with an idiot, what bravado!

He headed off in the direction of the hospital wing. He had homework to do, and he just wanted to drop her off and be over with it. "Are you alright?" When she looked back, he did as well, to make sure Marshall wasn't terrorizing her further.

Completely caught off guard, Charlotte jumped, her grip on her prince's hand tightening ever so slightly.
"Y-Yeah!"
Nodding quickly to remove any and all suspicion [which it totally did. Nodding quickly does that you know], Charlotte gave one last terrifying glare... Okay, one last glance towards Marshall, content with the fact that he looked like a complete fool and wasn't about to follow them anytime soon.
And that's what you get for messing with my prince!

Marshall could only watch as the two pinkettes walked away, off towards the hospital wing. She'll need a hospital after the beating I give her-- No, no. He didn't beat up girls. Or first years. No matter how tempting it was, and trust me. It was tempting. So... Very... Tempting. Snapping out of his thoughts, Marshall shrugged off his robe, throwing it over his arm. He'd fix it later. He had to study... That stupid History of Magic test coming up... The professor was insane!
"This is ridiculous" Marshall muttered under his breath. He didn't need this. Ruined robe? Not so bad. Time taken out of studying? Bad. Very bad. He wasn't in Ravenclaw for a reason. Book smarts didn't really come... naturally to him. Sure, he was kind of procrastinating in the first place, but pranks are definitely worth it. Pranks on other people . Not himself.
