It wasn't as though he hadn't been expecting it, but he was still taken by surprise when, just after exiting the Three Broomsticks, Marshall dashed off.
"Marshall!" he called after him, before following at a run. It took him a moment to realize that the other sixth year was headed for two younger students, and he felt a flash of guilt for suspecting him of trying to run away.

The sixth year stopped, turning around when he heard his name being called. What the heck did Barnaby want? Wouldn't it be smarter if they both split up? Cover a lot more ground, right? Figures that he was all talk, no action.
Marshall turned around, making sure the two first years weren't making their escape, which they weren't [which they kind of were, but this just gave him reason to tackl-- er... yell at them later.], and waited for Barnaby to catch up.
"Come on, man, they're getting away!" He waved his hand in the general direction of the first years, not bothering to turn around. "Let's. GO!" He grabbed Barnaby's wrist, dragging him off the way the first years had run off to.

Yellow peered up at the boy who had brought them here. She knew he would eventually come back!!
"H-Hello..." At least...she tried to say hello. What really came out was a squeak of terror. She also tried to smile, but instead looked like the little 'boy' was about to pass out. Oh yes, she really was going to make a wonderful impression on her upperclassman.

Charlotte smiled, shrugging.
"They may or they may not, I don't know. That's not a big deal anyway... Because, my prince will save us if we ever get lost!"
Charlotte sighed happily, getting lost in her own little world where her prince in pink armor comes riding in to save her! It would be magnificent! Wait... Her friend was saying something...
"...llo..."
Was someone else here? Charlotte turned around, only to see him . She immediately narrowed her eyes. She knew that they had followed him down into the village, but that was only so her prince could save her! Speaking of which, where was he--
Right. Behind. Him. Charlotte's eyes narrowed on that cretin grabbing onto her prince's wrist.
No way am I going to... Charlotte ran to Gumball, giving him a fierce hug, almost knocking him off his feet and definitely making him stumble back a few steps, out of the heathens grip. Victory.

"Getting away?" Gumball asked, confused, since it didn't seem like the students were going anywhere. He was already running, but when his classmate grabbed his wrist he almost fell and stumbled to keep up-- Marshall was fast. He was still hopping along awkwardly when they came to a stop in front of two younger students; a blond girl in a straw hat and--was that Charlotte?
He would have waved, but Marshall still had a tight grip on his wrist so he just offered them a smile, opening his mouth to greet them-- and was almost knocked over by Charlotte latching on to his waist. "OOF." His other arm was still sore from being yanked violently from Marshall's grasp, so he patted her head with his uninjured hand as he wheezed, trying to regain his breath. "H-hello, Charlotte," he finally managed to rasp out.

Marshall took a step back to steady himself. That girl was like a linebacker ! She had made a beeline for Gumball, no surprise there. She had also given him this monster evil eye. Again, no surprise. It didn't seem like he was going to win her over anytime soon. Didn't matter. Plenty of other first years to win over to his side of evil... Er... Misunderstood misfits. Or something like that.
"Hey, you okay?" He took a step towards the other Hufflepuff. Maybe this chick er... guy...? Maybe this kid would take kindly to him, but then again, maybe not, considering his...her... it's friend was so hostile. Not that it really mattered, Hufflepuffs were useless and incompetent. I mean... What kind of prankster tells a professor they did something?? Hufflepuffs, that's who. Gryffindors were much better, their pride wouldn't let them tell... Although they might spill their plans to one of their friends which ALSO ruins the operation. Lame.
Right! Time to find other first years, not complain about them [although there was always time to complain about first years. Always.]!

"Oh, I missed you, I got dragged down to this village by that weirdo!"
Charlotte shot a glance at Marshall, hoping to get her point across as tears [totally real! Really!] sprung to her eyes. She buried her head in her prince's chest. Oh, even his presence was so comforting, even though he'd been there for only a few seconds! Just comforting enough to cancel out that dolt's sickening presence!
"I didn't want to go along with him, I know we're not supposed to be here as first years, but he kept insisting and insisting and calling us horrible names until we said we'd go!"
A choked sob escaped her throat as she smiled, knowing he couldn't see her face.

"Y-Yes I'm fine. Y-You came back to find u-us?". Poor Yellow was a bit too oblivious to the rules of the school or the rules of the wizardig world to know that she should tell a teacher about this little adventure. She was already a bit curious why the older boy had brought them with him, but she assumed he knew what he was doing. And it was obvious the other pink-clad boy was going along with him so it must be alright!

"Well, I couldn't just leave you here, could I?" Yes he could. Yes he would. But he wouldn't, not today. You have to build up their trust so they'll go on more trips with you! And THEN you leave them. Ingenious plan. He patted the poor hesheitthing on the head, hopefully comforting. See, these weren't his kinda thing; being comforting and nice and responsible? Yeah, that was Barnaby's job.
The sixth year offered his hand to Yellow, hoping she'd take it, just for the fact that she might get lost any other way. Charlotte was taken care of, he was sure she wouldn't leave Gumball's side for the rest of the trip... And maybe the night. "And now we just need to find everyone else, got it?" He turned to Gumball, asking his opinion. He wasn't really going to take it into consideration, but he could let the prefect think he did [though he might suspect him of being insincere. For a very good reason.] "Think we should split up?"

"No, I don't trust you to do this alone," he replied. Then he glanced down at the girl latched firmly to him. "Charlotte, why don't you two head on home. I have to help Marshall find the others." He still didn't know the blond boy's name-- he should probably ask before they left so he could keep an eye on them from now on.

Yellow took the sixth-years hand eagerly, feeling very comforted by his words. "I was scared. I don't know how to g-get home..." She turned red and glanced at Charlotte. "I-I don't think anyone knows...th-the others ran away a-and I'm n-not really sure where they went..." She smiled up at him, trying to be helpful.

Look down at hand. Back up. To Gumball. Hand. Up. Down. Yellow. Hand. What was he supposed to do?? The first year had taken hold of his hand just as Barnaby was saying they should leave. It wasn't even like he could yank his hand out of the first years, that would just be cruel... Especially after he offered his hand to himherit... No wait. Yes he could.
Sliding his hand out of the questionably male...female... first years grasp, he pointed towards Hogwarts. "Giant castle like thing? Kinda hard to miss. Just take the fourth right, turn at the third left, take the first right turn after that and keep right at the fork in the road. Turn at the second almost left [mind you, it was kind of hidden],up the hill to the tunnel underneath it, heading the opposite way. Take that and the third left and keep going straight. You should be at the school in no time. Got it?" Man, he was amazing with directions. There was no way the first years would get lost now! He had told them exactly where to go. Whether they remembered it or not was up to them.

Yellow was a little disappointed that the older boy was really leaving her all alone in the town. "I-I think so...b-but wh-what if I get lost??" She really wasn't sure she would ever remember those directions; he had spoken so quickly....she was supposed to take the first left and the second right and then the third left and then another left and finally she would be back at the school, right??

You shouldn't be here. Mac ignored this thought and continued down the main street of Hogsmeade. He had spent some time in Scrivenschaft's Quill Shop, but hadn't bought anything. Honeydukes had teased him from across the street. He had spent a good few minutes standing outside it, watching the other students with jealousy. You shouldn't be here. Again, he ignored this and left the vicinity of the candy shop, turning instead toward the shop he had really come to see.
Tomes and Scrolls. This shop sold all sorts of wizarding books, and he wanted one. That was the whole reason for listening to that Slytherin guy, paying him a few Galleons, and sneaking off to Hogsmeade. Mac had quickly separated from the rest of the group, for most of them were heading for Zonko's, the joke shop. What he really wanted was a new book. You shouldn't be here! Mac groaned. Oh, shut up conscience! I'll just buy a book and be right back out and off to Hogwarts. No one will even notice! Right after thinking this, Mac spotted a very tall student with...pink...hair. He gulped and walked a bit faster, hoping to pass by him and duck inside Tomes and Scrolls before Gumball had a chance to spot him.

Just then Gumball saw his other adoptive freshman buddy! He couldn't follow him, because Charlotte was still clinging to his chest like a determined baby monkey, but he called his name out over the crowd, waving to attract his attention.
"Mac! Over here!"
Good thing he'd at least caught the boy before something bad happened to him...Although they weren't really in a dangerous part of town.
