It wasn't until Gumball entered the dungeon that he realized he was one of the only ones there. He had checked the time, and hadn't meant to be so early...maybe everyone else was fashionably late? Like Shion had mentioned, there was food, and he wandered vaguely in that direction, but he wasn't really hungry.

She couldn't quite remember the new guest's name, either, despite them being in the same house. She simply pushed that aside, though; she would get to know everyone eventually.
The sound of flapping wings came quickly from behind the Slytherin boy before her, and she grinned. "Ah, there you are!" She extended her arms, allowing her large hawk to perch upon it. The bird eyed all three party guests suspiciously, but Shion calmed her by patting her head. "Now now, be nice."

Marshall smiled as Shion couldn't remember his name. Not that it was important, she'd pick it up soon enough. So! Moving onward into the room, Marshall shrugged past Shion and her little first year friend into the party. Parties always promised free food. And any food, especially free, was good. And always welcome. Always. Not to mention he was starving . You know teenage boys. Bottomless pits. Because he was completely focused on the food, Marshall missed everyone else the room. Not that there were many, just a few scroungers that were on time [and who was ever on time? These people.]. After taking an audacious amount of food, Marshall finally tuned in to see who had showed up at the party.

He had hoped someone else would show up. He should have been more specific in his hopes, because the next person to show up was Marshall. He didn't seem to be paying much attention, though, as he made a beeline to the food table. Gumball quietly headed over to where Shion and the first year stood, hoping to engage them in conversation before the Slytherin boy noticed him.

As Shion talked to Jim about, well nothing really, she paid no mind to her fellow Slytherin enjoying her food. She did pay attention to Gumball approaching them, and she smiled at him. The bird on her arm ruffled its feathers, staring down the pink-haired boy. Once again, Shion calmed her. "Sorry about her, she hates strangers. She could barely stand me for the first few weeks I had her."

"Animals can be finicky," he replied, smiling up at the bird but not moving closer. He didn't want to upset her further. "What's her name?"

"Mion," she replied rather softly, "after my sister..." Shion closed her eyes to suppress some heart-wrenching memories, before she held the bird out to him. "You can pet her, if you'd like. I promise you she won't bite." She grinned. Mion narrowed her eyes a bit, but did not stir, allowing the boy to touch her, should he wish.

"Good to meet you, Mion," he said gravely, raising one hand to stroke her back. "Ah, she's very soft," he commented, sounding surprised.

The bird softly cooed, and rub its head against the boy's arm. Shion giggled. "She likes you! Impressive." She dropped her arm rapidly, but the bird held herself onto Shion, only letting go of her when Shion's arm rested at her side. Mion flew up and onto an old torch holder, looking down at everyone.

"Is that not common, for her to like someone?" it was a new experience for him, having an owl like him so quickly. He was better with four-legged creatures like hippogriffs and unicorns. He watched her fly to the torch holder.

Shion shrugged. "Well, as I said, she doesn't like strangers very much. Once she gets to know someone, she's very sweet and loyal." Mion cawed as if to agree. The hawk then closed her eyes and rested into the holder, as if trying to sleep. Shion smiled up at her. "She's, like, the only friend I have right now... That's why I'm throwing this party!" She looked around the room briefly, and her face fell. "Well, it would be a bigger success if there were more people.."

"I'm sure they're just late," he said hastily, trying to reassure her. "You'll make lots of friends; we're all very kind here. Except for some--" he was about to say 'Slytherins' when he remembered her house. How strange, she didn't act like a Slytherin at all...

"Except for some what, Barnaby?" Marshall appeared behind the two, apparently finished with eating [don't worry, he'll be back for seconds... or thirds... or fourths]. He had actually been listening in on their conversation for a few minutes now, just waiting for the perfect time to interrupt and make Gumball look like an idiot.

Gumball jumped in surprise. "Except for...some. That was the end of my sentence, Marshall." He didn't like lying, but sometimes certain circumstances made it necessary.

Shion jumped a little as well, then grinned at the other Slytherin. "Sneaky one, aren't you? What was your name again?" She flicked her eyes back to Gumball. "Barnaby? I thought your name was Gumball?"
