He considered the question. Of course he liked Marshall, he just wished the other boy could leave him alone sometimes. And that was probably the answer. "We're very different, but he insists on being around me all the time." Oh, but that sounded bad. He really didn't dislike him, just found him irritating. "Our differences cause us to disagree."

“Uh, whenever you’re ready, I guess…” He looked at the blue speckled one for a moment, trying to guess what flavor it could possibly be. He couldn’t think of a single thing that would be blue speckled. He wasn’t sure he was ready to taste it yet… He looked at Yellow to see if she had gotten enough courage to try hers yet.

"Ah, so you dislike his presence even though he wants to be with you?" Anri asked, feeling sorry for Marshall.

At Anri's comment, Shion snickered a little. "Aww, Gumball, you're so mean!" she teased. "Poor, poor Marshall..."

"It's! No, it's not like that--" he stammered. Why couldn't they see that Marshall spent all his time pestering him? Now both girls seemed to think he was some kind of bully.

"I... I think that you should try spending some quality time with him," she offered, "you could have a wonderful relationship with Marshall if you simply accepted him into your heart." They had the potential to become very good friends – even if they were as different as Gumball claimed they were, well, there was that saying she had read in a book somewhere... 'opposites attract' or something like that. People who were very different could supposedly get along quite well if the saying was correct.

"I'm only picking, Gumball. But Anri is right." She draped her arm around the Ravenclaw girl's shoulders, pulling her in closer, "You guys really good be good friends if you tried!" Shion grinned happily.

Anri stumbled as Shion threw an arm around her shoulders and pulled her in. The sudden act of familiarity had surprised her.

Marshall heaved a sigh. "He's so mean, isn't he?" He placed a hand over his heart, staring longingly off into the distance. "All I want is to be his..." Dramatic pause. "friend!" He was definitely going to milk this for all he's got. He and Barnaby actually got along... Sometimes, so that wasn't a complete lie! But since they were in different houses, they didn't really get to see each other other than their classes and when Marshall came to bother him [which maaaaaaay be why he did that so much.] They might get along if they spent more time together, but would that really be worthwhile? Mmmn... Not really. So why bother?

"Marshall! Stop that!" Trust him to play along and make the entire situation worse. The way everyone was making a big deal about it was irking Gumball. He hadn't really thought about his relationship with Marshall; they spent a lot of time together, and most of it was bickering. That was just the way things were, and he would be lying if he said it wasn't a little bit comforting. But did he really want to be friends with him? What if it had a negative effect on his studies, or got him in trouble with the teachers!
But yelling at him in front of the whole party wasn't going to help his case, so he frowned, tucking his hands into his pockets, and continued more quietly, "I thought we already were friends."

Shion giggled. "Awww! Gumball!" she clapped her hands together. She didn't want to upset Gumball with her pestering, but she did want everyone to get along here. An argument was the last thing she wanted at a party meant to bring people together. She looked to Jim and Yellow. "Yay! Everyone's getting along just fine now!" She beamed.

"You are friends then?" that was good. "Friends are very precious. Still, as friends you should invest in some private bonding time... maybe a normal, honest conversation would be helpful. Marshall doesn't seem to think your relationship is close enough to be called friendship."

"Oh, we're more than friends, if you know what I mean" Marshall wrapped an arm around Gumball, pulling him closer. If Barnaby wasn't already annoyed with him, he definitely would be now. All things considered, they probably didn't have anything even remotely close to a friendship. It was more like... Okay, well, yeah, maybe they were friends. Frenemies or whatever, right?

That was crossing the line. "We are NOT!" Gumball exclaimed, turning dark pink. "You're giving them the wrong idea!" Here he was, trying to be nice to the Slytherin, and look where it had gotten him.

"You... Are not friends then?" once again, Gumball seemed to be unwilling to be with Marshall. Anri sighed. "Marshall really wants you Gumball! Why do you keep denying him?"
