Shion scoffed. "Yes, but do you honestly think that if I had said no, he wouldn't have turned and asked you?" She glanced up at the other girl. "Masaomi..." Blushing, she looked away, eyebrows furrowed. "Hell if I know what he'd do."
Wanting to change the subject, so as to not get too upset, Shion searched for a new topic. "So, how did Marshall ask you?"

Isabela paused. She hadn't been expecting that. TECHNICALLY, he hadn't yet. She was working on that.
"...He hasn't. Yet. I'm working on that." She thought again. "I should ask him, really."

Shion smiled. "You should. I don't know him very well, but I'm pretty sure you two would get along."

Isabela made a move to smile, and then paused. Was that considered a bonding moment? Hadn't they just been in a fight earlier? They were Slytherins! Slytherins were supposed to hold grudges, weren't they? Isabela shook her head slightly and crossed to the window.
She loved the fact that the windows looked out into the depths of the eerie Lake. It gave a wicked, sinister look to everything, and bathed all of the objects in the room in a sea-green light. She only wished it weren't storming outside, but if anything it seemed to be getting worse. Stormy, caught-inside days didn't exist out at sea; one simply did their work as usual, only a little wetter. But here, in Scotland, rain was different. Rain was cold, and clammy, and could make you sick. Sighing, she turned, leaning on the window and looking at Shion.
"So, what do YOU do when you're stuck inside all day?"

Shion didn't have to think for long. Back in her worst days, she would always be trapped inside, and watched. "Doddle. Sing. Dance. Sleep." She shrugged.

Isabela looked at her blankly. "That's ALL you ever did? You never told ghost stories, or played cards, or made shadow puppets?" That's all the pirates did, back on her father's boat. When they didn't have work to do, they holed up inside and shared stories over a beer. Isabela, of course, didn't drink, and didn't have any alcohol to begin with, but she had something close.
A quick jaunt upstairs and she changed into a more comfortable set of sleep pants and a matching T-shirt, red with tiny skull-and-crossbones on them. She reached under her bed and brought out her secret stash: a small collection of bottled butterbeer. She'd snuck them back easily from Hogsmeade one day, and technically it never said in the rules that you COULDN'T have butterbeer on campus. After all, it was the one drink students were ALLOWED to have out in the small village. Isabela had loved it so much she'd brought it back, and was saving it for a special occasion. This certainly seemed special enough. She also grabbed a pack of playing cards, just in case.
She brought them downstairs and put them on the table. "Now I'll show you how a real party goes." She uncapped one of the butterbeers and leaned back, smiling. "We can tell ghost stories. That's what we should do. I've got some pretty good ones, but you can go first if you want."

Shion shook her head. "No. I didn't have anyone else to do those things with." She sighed and closed her eyes. But then, she felt the other presence was gone. She looked around the dark room, but Mion was watching the stairs. "Did she get bored of me, girl?" She stroked her companion, and rested her head against the chair. Shion did feel tired after all the things that had happened to her; the forbidden forest, her party, shopping, schoolwork, classes. Her head hurt at the mere thought of all she had learned here, compared to what she learned at the Witches Institute, which was practically nothing. She had been too busy plotting her escape to actually learn things aside from a few hexes and curses.
Upon Isabela's return, Shion leaned over, resting her chin in the palm of her hand whilst her elbow dug into her knee. She grabbed a butterbeer, uncapped it, and took a gulp or two. "I'm no good at ghost stories. Show me what you've got."

Isabela smiled at the challenge, and decided to tell a story a Seventh year Slytherin had told her during her first year at Hogwarts. "Alright Shion... Once, long ago, there were three fourth-year roommates living together up in the old girl's section. They were all in the same year, and all in the same classes, as most students in the same year normally are. Two of the girls, Jenny and Lisa, got along very well and were the best of friends. The other girl, Yew, however, was not friends with either of the two girls. She'd been transferred to Hogwarts that year, and kept to herself so neither girl could get to know her. Well, their midterm tests were sneaking up, as they usually did, and Jenny and Lisa began preparing for a night full of studying together. However, at the very last second Jenny was invited to a party in the dungeons by the man she fancied. She reassured Lisa that she would cram the next morning, right before their test. Lisa just nodded and went back to their dorm room."
"Later that night, MUCH later, Jenny came back in to sleep. She heard silence from Yew's bed, which was normal, but a light tossing from Lisa's. This was normal as well because Lisa had horrible nightmares sometimes, and since the two girls had roomed together for four years, Jenny murmured a quick "Goodnight Lisa." and went to bed without lighting a torch. The next morning, she went into the bathes without lighting a torch or her wand, because both of her roommates were still asleep. She got out of the bath a little late, and ran to wake Lisa up so that they wouldn't be late for their midterm."
"But Lisa wouldn't wake up, no matter how hard Jenny shook her, and so the other girl finally lit a torch. The sight that befell her eyes was ghastly. Above her roommates bed, written in Lisa's blood were the words, "Aren't you glad you didn't light a torch?""
"Yew was never found. She had disappeared, taking the life of Jenny's very best friend with her. Some students say you can still feel Lisa's struggles, if you sleep in her bed..."

As Shion listened to her story, her eyes did widen a bit at some points, but she mainly kept her calm. She had heard similar stories. "Ah, well, I know I don't sleep in her bed, so I'm good." She grinned. "Now, I believe it's my turn..." She leaned back in her seat and set her butterbeer on the table, before resting her hands on the arm rests. The look on her face was devilish, and her bangs made her eyes look darker. Mion cawed and flapped her wings once, making the sight seem even more ominous.
"My story isn't one about Hogwarts, no... It's about a little girl..." she struggled for a made-up name, "Kay-chan, and her family. Her family were powerful, evil wizards, but the little girl was good and kind to all. She had a twin sister, who was deceitful and evil just like their parents...
Kay-chan fell in love, but her parents hated the boy, and killed him without letting Kay-chan know, and let the entire village believe that the boy had simply... vanished. Kay-chan knew better. Kay-chan was smart. Her sister was friends with the boy, and provided most of the information that her parents needed to kill the boy. Kay-chan knew this all along...
All of Kay-chan's friends were a part in her love's disappearance, and she knew he would want revenge. Kay-chan killed them all, one by one. Tortured them to death with both magic, and her family's torture chamber in their basement. After that, she killed her own sister, the most evil one of all, and ran away. Never to be seen again."

Isabela blinked. "That's a really good story Shion." She glanced at the girl. The story was horribly sad, if it was true. Hadn't Shion mentioned something about a lost love? What if...?
"Is that true?"

"Hm?" Shion's demeanor suddenly brightened, and she seemed less scarey. She smiled, shaking her head. "Of course not! Just a little story I made up with some friends a very long time ago."
Of course it was a lie. Her whole story was true aside from a few minor changes. Kay-chan, Shion, what's the difference?
Shion grabbed her drink, taking another swig. "Got any more?"

Isabela shook her head, still trying to shake that unnerving feeling from her head. She took another swig of butterbeer. "I have a true story, if you want to hear that. It's not particularly scary; just sad."

"Sure!" Shion was up for anything. She continued to drink her butterbeer til it was gone, and reached for another, waiting for Isabela to begin.

"Once upon a time, there was a very regal woman. She was the belle of her African tribe, the most beautiful thing that they owned. She had long, flowing dark hair, and graceful dark skin, with a set of brown eyes to match. She was set to be wed to the strongest warrior of a neighboring tribe, in order to bring peace between the two."
"One day, however, the woman's tribe was closer to the shore then they normally were, and spied a magnificent vessel by the shore. It was a hundred times bigger than anything the tribe owned, bigger than any vessel they'd ever seen. The tribe and their neighboring tribe were so impressed, they spent the whole next two days with the crew of the vessels, learning their strange ways. The second tribe ended up giving one of their best soldiers as part of the new crew."
"The woman asked permission of her tribe to go with the crew, and they allowed her. She went with the crew, the only woman on board the ship. At first, they didn't accept her. Her navigation skills, however, were impeccable in storms: She'd been a tracker in her old tribe, and knew the stars like no one else. The captain eventually fell in love with her, and they were married out at sea."
"The woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy, but it didn't last. The child caught scurvy, and died after only two years of life. The next pregnancy was much more complicated. The woman was sick the entire time, bed-ridden and barely able to eat. When the baby was due, it was a particularly nasty day on the seas. As the little girl was born, quite similar to her mother in looks, the woman passed away."
"Her funeral was the next day. They set her adrift on a burning longboat, the custom of her people. The baby girl lived, and stayed on the boat the rest of her life. She lived the life of a pirate, and was raised to one day take her father's place as captain..." Isabela trailed off. She hadn't told that story in a while. Everyone on the boat knew it, and no one really needed to know it...

Shion's face grew sadder and sadder as the story progressed, and from the beginning she knew... "Isabela, is that your story?"
