Isabela nodded. "My mother's, anyway. Or so I'm told by my father and everyone else on the boat." She shrugged, taking another swig. "Some day I promised my father I'd sail back to that tribe, if only to see if the story was true."

"You don't know if it is?" Shion found that a bit strange. She crossed her legs, getting comfortable.

"Well, everyone TELLS me it's true. But they're PIRATES. Their job literally entails lying. But I believe it's true. My father doesn't lie to me often."

"Well, I think it would be hard to make up such an elaborate story." Shion finished off her butterbeer, and licked her top lip free of the froth.

Isabela nodded. "So, what's the story behind her?" She pointed at Mion.

Shion glanced up at her precious bird, who cocked her head to the side, staring at Isabela's pointing finger. Shion smiled, and held her arm up for the bird to climb onto. "Mion.... Is my sister's name. This hawk found me when I went to the Salem Witches Institute. I wasn't too fond of owls, or cats, the generic pets. But Mion flew right to me one night while I was out, and I was giving her treats, and we just bonded. She hasn't left me since, even though she very well could." Shion nuzzled the bird's chest feathers affectionately. "My sister was my best friend, and so I named Mion after her..."

Isabela looked at Shion. Often times she was confidant and secure in herself, but right now the girl just seemed sad. Isabela felt as if this would be the moment to learn just a bit more about her frenemy.
"You had a sister?"

Shion nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving the bird. "Yes. A twin sister." Her eyes slid over to the other girl, and she smiled.

"Wow. That must've been cool. I always wanted a sibling, especially a girl one. You have no IDEA what it's like being raised by drunken old men."

Shion snickered. "Yeah, well, my family wasn't exactly great, either."

Isabela laughed again. "How so? You seem to have loved your sister."

"I did..." Shion placed the bird back atop the chair. "But my grandmother was horrible."

"Grandmother? You had grandparents?" Isabela's eyes widened.

Shion hummed to herself. Clearly Isabela didn't understand Shion's distaste. "A grandmother. A wicked witch for a grandmother."

"But that's so cool!" Isabela couldn't really understand why anyone wouldn't want a grandmother, even a wicked one. "I don't know ANY of my grandparents."
