Finally. Masaomi thought to himself after he at last reached the top of the West Tower, letter clutched in hand as he took a moment to lean against the outside wall and catch his breath. I mean really, why would someone make something so frequently used so out of reach???
The sudden loud hooting and the bird zooming past him inside to find it's roost answered his question for him.
Masaomi groaned loudly and followed in after the owl. It wasn't that he disliked them...Okay, maybe it was. He didn't really know why but they just always seemed to unsettle him with the way they would look at you...as if they could see right through you. The thought only made him shudder momentarily.
With slight hesitation and a bit of searching, he found himself the cutest looking (and thus, least unsettling) owl provided for use by students who opted not to bring them as a pet to school for mail.
"Here," He deadpanned, holding out the letter to the owl. It was only slightly thicker than your average letter and instead of English, the address was written out in Japanese. "Can you make it out? Think you can make it all the way to Saitama?"

Fenris paused when he saw the older boy. Shouldn't someone of his year be able to send a letter home? Or maybe, he was a kindred spirit, though being a Gryffindor. Maybe this student, too, had no one at home who wanted him, and he'd never really had to send a letter. "The owls seem to be able to read most languages." He muttered, stepping out of the shadows. He was afraid that his voice might startle, it was deeper than most boys' his age, not to mention the fact that he had just stepped up right next to the boy out of seemingly nowhere.

"Oh? Well that's a relief then," He replied to the voice evenly without turning to face. Truthfully speaking the sudden comment almost made him jump, but Masaomi was able to contain himself and retain his composure. After the owl hooted softly, clutched the letter and flown off, Masaomi turned to look at the student who had spoken out to him. It was a Slytherin boy, looked maybe around his 4th or 5th year. "Thanks~"

Fenris gave a nod as confirmation. He marveled that the boy was not startled, though he had twitched slightly. Maybe he was just very skilled at hiding his emotions. As Fenris stood in the awkward silence that always happens during a first meeting, an owl mistook his non-movement for him being a perch. The owl settled on his head, hooing slightly and ruining all chances Fenris might have had for being taken seriously.

"Pffffffffffft-" Masaomi couldn't help but crack a smile at the other students expense. As he watched the owl start to get comfortable it broke out into full out laughter. "So you were up here trying to mail yourself then~? Ah, sorry doesn't quite work that way~☆" He poked fun, hoping to help ease the tension in the atmosphere. Reaching his hand over the boys head he helped to shoo the owl away.

Fenris watched the owl float leisurely away, and couldn't help peeping out a dark chuckle. Admittedly, the other student's joke was not that funny, but Fenris could tell that he was simply trying to lighten the atmosphere. And, with Fenris in one's presence, this was like trying to get rid of a hurricane with a spoon. He shook his head, letting the shake tremble down his body, to show the owls that he was not a perk. "I was getting piece and quiet. Strangely only animals can achieve this." He gestured at the ceiling. "They chirp, yes, but these sounds are not words." He paused. That was probably rude...

"Hmm?" Masaomi raised an eyebrow at the other student with a look on his face that probably showed his 'I'm an idiot, not all that philosophical' side. He shrugged and rested his arms behind his head. "Meh, it's all just unnecessary noise to me. You'll only ever catch me around here if I have something to mail." -Which basically all depended on how fast his friend decided to reply. And if the random appearance of an owl didn't scare the living daylights out of him. Masaomi couldn't help but smile to himself at the thought of his friend falling over in his chair and screeching at the sounds of an owl tapping at his window.

Fenris nodded. "As most of the students tend to avoid it. Most find the interior..." He looked around to the not-so-well-kept walls, covered with owl...droppings. "Avoidable, for want of a less vulgar word." He knew his speech was probably confusing the older student, which was not exactly either of their faults. Fenris simply had read one too many fantasy novels in his day, and spent too many days listening to the very fanciest of purebloods. Also, this student was Japanese. Maybe he had never been around many classical Englishmen. "Maybe we got off to the wrong foot, sir." Fenris extended his hand. "Fenris Cantor."

After a pause Masaomi grinned and reached out and gripped Fenris' hand tightly and gave it a good shake. "The name's Kida Masaomi~ Fifth year."

"Fourth year." Fenris admitted. He had guessed that Kida was older than he, but as far as maturity met, Fenris believed the he far outreached him on that scale. Then again, Fenris tended to be more mature than most teenagers his age. Years of bullying will do that to a kid. "So, a Gryffindor and a Slytherin walked into a bar..." He began, hoping the to get a starting conversation. Then again, Kida might not even know any 'walked into a bar' jokes. That was almost purely muggle, and Fenris' father was full of mugge jokes.

Masaomi nodded his head in interest. He was a bit surprised that Fenris was trying to make a joke, due to the impression he had been giving off. And it was a bar joke at that! Man, it had been ages since he had heard one of those from another person. The last time was probably when he was still in elementary school, back when magic was still only a fairytale to him. Maybe if it was good enough he could try it out later with some of the girls in his house. Bet none of them have ever heard those kinds of jokes~ He listened attentively to his lower class man, making sure he wouldn't miss the punchline.

Fenris paused, blinking. Normally this is where he completed the joke for his father. Jokes had always been a two-way street in his family, with one person starting and another finishing. Therefore everyone was a part of it, and it initiated conversation. One person by themselves doing a bar joke... He mentally shook his head at the fact that Kida probably thought him much less proper than he was. "The Gryffindor says to the Slytherin, 'Hey, why did I come to a bar with you in the first place?'" Ugh. That was a weak one. He had to choose a bar joke. He knew thousands of funny lightbulb ones...

"......" Masaomi continued to look at him, as if expecting more to the joke. Even though there was a merit of humor in there due to the rivalry between the two houses, Masaomi would be unable to pick it up. This was his first year at hogwarts after all, and it hadn't been long into the school year at that. He was still unaware to the long standing hatred the two houses shared towards each other.
When he realized that that was all to the joke, Masaomi frowned. "That it?"

Fenris frowned. "Yes... Normally I get at least a chuckle..." He thought. Maybe Kida was a transfer student, and didn't know about the rivalry between the two houses. That would explain why he was so easy to open up to a Slytherin, even being a fifth year. "We," Fenris held up his green-striped-silver tie. "Normally hate you." He gestured to Kida's Gryffindor one. "However, you seem to be acceptable."

"Ehhhhhhh now why would Slytherins hate me?" He replied with a mock look of hurt on his face. By this point he had realized that he was referring to the Gryffindor house as a whole, and not just him in particular, but he decided to use the opportunity to make a joke instead. "I mean what with my charming wit, and dazzling looks, whats not to like??" He put both his hands on Fenris' shoulders and deadpanned. "Clearly you must teach the others the errors of their ways and convince them of my magnificent personality." He paused. "Especially the girls. Definitely the girls."
