“Hey,” He said patting Yellow on the back, “it’s not bad at all!” then he leaned down so that only Yellow and Mac could hear and whispered: “I’ve already tried to fly with a broom, and it’s really fun! Mac knows, ask him!” He smiled at Mac. Jim didn’t know if it would be okay if the teacher knew that he had already flown or not, and he certainly didn’t want to get in trouble in this class, it could prevent him from flying altogether!

"Really? So you're sure no one will get hurt?" the thing Yellow feared the most was one of her friends falling to their deaths because they weren't safe while learning to fly on these deathtrap broomsticks. But one must forgive her assumption, she is a muggle-born.

“Yeah, as long as you hold on and don’t try flying upside-down, the brooms will keep their balance.” He assured her. "Plus, I’ll be right here to catch you if you fall." he grinned at her.

(was he supposed to have said the last part? I'm gonna go with not, so if he was just let me know and I'll change the reply XD)
"Oh...that's reassuring...a-are you sure that flying on brooms doesn't mean we're e-evil witches?? Or is that not true..." She felt really stupid for saying it once she had done so, and realized that since most of the other students had come from wizard/witch families it might sound awful. "I-I don't mean that there's anything w-wrong if y-you're o-one of those t-type of--" She ended up trailing off and fidgeting awkwardly, she sincerely hoped that what she had said hadn't offended Jim.

Mac nodded when Jim brought up their little adventure at the Quidditch Field. That had been terrifying, but Jim had seemed like such a natural flyer. There was no doubt Jim was going to do fine in this class. Mac hoped he did half as well. He continued listening to Yellow's fears. It seemed she was still clinging to the tradition taught to children that evil witches rode brooms. "The only way that you can be an evil witch, is if you choose to be, Yellow," he tried to reassure her. "The broom doesn't make the witch evil, it's what she does that makes her evil."

"O-Oh...thank you." Yellow turned redder than she had ever been before and turned her gaze to the floor. She really was an idiot. And now the other kids wouldn't like her as much because she had said something stupid.

"Hey, don't worry about," Mac said, as he watched her face turn red in embarrassment and she avoided looking into his eyes. "If I hadn't practically read the entire collection of books at Flourish and Blotts over the summer, I would probably be thinking the same thing as you right now!" He laughed at himself, trying to get Yellow to cheer up.

Yellow peeked up at Mac, "You don't think I'm weird? Not at all? Even though I didn't know??" She decided, at least for now, maybe not all of these kids were strange. It seems that Mac also didn't grow up knowing everything like the rest of the students at this crazy school. That made her feel at least a little better. "A-Are you from a non-magic family too?"

"Of course you're not weird! We're first years- I think it's pretty much our job not to know much about the wizarding world, at least for us muggle-borns." He paused. "Yeah, it looks like we're in the same boat. I mean, I read a lot about the magic stuff, but that doesn't mean I know much about it yet. Does that make sense?" Mac smiled over at the girl.

"Yes. It does. But I'm not really sure what you mean by the term muggle-born, unless it means people who are born without magical parents. This school sure isn't anything like I've ever been to before." She smiled, finally relating to someone at this school.

“Yeah, all of us are muggle-borns, or kids born with magical powers, when their parents had none. All of us are new at the whole magic thing.” He explained to Yellow.

"You too?? B-But you know so much! I-I thought you had magical parents..." She never would have suspected someone who could already fly of being muggle-born. It was almost fantastic!

Doyle looked down at his clipboard. And up at the door. And down at the clipboard. And up at the door. He sighed. The other first years had had plenty of time to get here by now; they'd have to do a lot of extra work to catch up but it was time to start class. Throwing the clipboard into the broom container, he turned to his students who were talking amongst themselves.
"Alright, kids, time to start your first lesson in flying! I need all of you to line up so you can see me, at least an arms length apart. Put your brooms on the ground, on your dominant hand's side." He demonstrated what he wanted by placing his Firebolt on the ground under his right hand.

He whispered to Yellow while he got into the teacher’s requested position: “I kind of figured it out on my own while trying to save Mac and a guy named Fenris from some kamikaze Quidditch balls.” I don’t know much, I just do things the hard way and figure them out.”

Also following the professor's instructions, Mac snorted at Jim's statement. "Hey, who's the one who came up with the brilliant plan to stop the Bludgers?" He smiled as he then recalled where Jim had ended up- through a classroom window.
