The early afternoon sun beat down on the Hogwarts Grounds, giving plenty of light to the upcoming class. The location of said class was right outside, behind the school, in a small courtyard surrounded on three sides by a stone wall. The remaining side was the door back into Hogwarts.
Professor Doyle Blackwell leaned against the container holding all the school brooms, hands behind his head. The school still only had a stock of Cleansweeps from when he went to school; not very good brooms, but they got the job done. Plus, the first years didn't have their own brooms yet, so they would have to make do with these. He let his arms down and crossed them over his chest as he waited for the class to arrive.
As first years, this would be their first proper lesson in flying. Some of those from wizarding families might know a thing or two about it, but they wouldn't have had a formal education in it. That was where Doyle came in. Hopefully, by the end of this lesson, most of the students would be in the air. And as long as they did what he said, then nobody would get hurt, and the class could go smoothly. Reflecting back on his own first year, he chuckled. Nothing ever went that well at Hogwarts, after all.

Yellow made her way over to the teacher standing alone on the grass as quickly as she could, considering her robes were a size too big for her and she was constantly tripping over her own feet in them. She was actually excited for this lesson, she had always wanted to fly, little did she realize that it wouldn't just be flying, but flying on broomsticks.

Jim was practically running to this class; he couldnt’ wait to learn how to fly! He knew how to surf and skate, so he was very familiar with the feeling of wind in his hair, making him even more excited for class. He was so determined to fly that he would stay there as long as he needed to so he could get up in the air. “Morning, Professor.” He said excitedly, which was very unusual for Jim, to say the least, but he couldn’t help his beaming smile from coming out.

"Afternoon, actually," Doyle replied, flashing the kid a huge grin. He knew that it was just barely past noon, and the first years coming from classes inside probably would still be out of it and not quite sure of the time, but he couldn't pass the opportunity by. Another boy walked around the courtyard, and he looked pretty nervous. He was walking towards him, so Doyle waited patiently for him to speak up. Or...wait...was he a girl? He'd have to take roll to make sure. Grabbing the clipboard out of the container, he asked the two of them, "So, names and Houses?"

“Jim Hawkins, Gryffindor!” He said ecstatically, still with a huge grin plastered on his face. He couldn’t wait for the class to start, and actually didn’t really notice the other girl standing on the field nearby.

Yellow smiled nervously. "Yellow Boque-Verde. Hufflepuff house." She has started to like the gryffindor boy when she had met him in their Defense against the Dark Arts class.

Mac walked through the doors and into the little courtyard, dragging his feet. He did not want to take this class. He had always been bad at sports back home. Except track; he was really good at running, he could run pretty fast (his brother gave him plenty of practice), but track involved two feet on the ground. No flying involved, whatsoever. Making his way to the professor, he heard Yellow give her name and House, so he did the same. "Mac McCracken; Ravenclaw House." This was going to be a looooong class.

Doyle checked all three names off the list, making a mental note that it was definitley a girl's small voice coming out of Yellow. "Alright then! Jim, Yellow, and Mac, why don't you three grab a broom here and find someplace close by to stand. You'll need a little space in between each other, but be close enough to hear my instructions. Just place the broom on the ground beside you for now, and you can talk while we wait for a few more first-years to show up." Yeah, that was good. Doyle sounded very teacherly, if he did say so himself- no one would be able to tell it was his first time teaching. He crossed his arms again, prepared to wait a few more minutes for more firsties. Surely there had to be more, at least, according to his list. He would not be happy with late-comers.

Yellow stared up at the teacher in horror. "B-Brooms? Wh-Why would we need brooms?" Suddenly she realized that this class might be just as strange and horrible as all her other classes.

Doyle blinked at the girl and then almost smacked himself on the forehead. Of course, muggle-borns wouldn't know anything about flying or brooms! Yellow must have been one such witch. "Well, this is Flying class," he answered. "And unless I'm missing something, you don't have any wings growing out of your back to help you with that." He chuckled, and grabbed his own broom (a firebolt, of course), holding it out for her to look at. "Brooms are one of the ways we witches and wizards use to fly. They are equipped with several charms and spells to make them airborne and to make them feel more comfortable. But, we'll go over more of that during one of our later classes, inside a classroom."

“Cool!” Jim grabbed a broom and stood between the Yellow and Max. He turned to yellow, “I didn’t get to meet you in our Defense Against the Dark Arts claas because the teacher kind of cut us off. So, you’re Yellow?” He gave her a grin.

Yellow nodded at Jim, timidly taking a broom from the stack. "Y-Yes...my name is Yellow. A-And what's your name?" She bit her lip, trying to get used to the idea of flying on brooms. All the things she had heard when she was little were that only bad witches used brooms to fly. The good witches could use other types of magic...like bubbles! And that was how they got around.

Giving a small sigh, resigned to his fate in this class, Mac also took a broom from out of the container. He struggled a moment to get it all out, but once he did, he moved back over to Jim and Yellow. "Hey," he said as a way of greeting them both, holding onto his broom with a death-grip. His nerves were already wound up tight, and he wasn't even off the ground yet!

"My name’s Jim, nice to meet you! Are you excited about flying?” He said to Yellow, while waving at Mac to acknowledge that he had heard him.
