It had been a week, and Fai had been keeping eyes and ears open for news of his friend (...as unwilling as Kurogane might be to admit any form of aquaintance he might have with the blonde, Fai did consider them friends). Yet, no one seemed to have heard from the young man all summer.
Fai had written a few letters, but got no reply...and now a week into the term he still hadn't seen hide nor hair of the Hufflepuff. He sighed, idly prodding at a bookcase to catch the lever, making the whole front swing forwards. He slipped into the passageway and closed the entrance, heading down the stairs after muttering a lumos spell to light his way. This one lead out to near the Hufflepuff common room and dorms, he was hoping he could badger (ha ha) one of Kuroganes housemates into giving him some information.

Kurogane had just left the Hufflepuff Dorm rooms he'd only been back at Hogwarts for three hours but he already felt like he wanted to get away, have some peace. He walked unsure where he was going just wanting to find somewhere quiet so he could be alone, the last thing he wanted to do was think. But thats what he usually ended up doing. Thinking about his parents and their death, he rubbed his eyes suddenly feeling very tired.
Kurogane suddenly noticed familiar blonde hair heading way, hurriedly turning into the nearest corridor, he really was not in the mood to deal with him.

Fai was trying to think who he could ask....he hadn't had the chance to grab Watanuki yet in or outside of class, as every time it seemed they were pre-occupied with various things (usually some task or other in class) but now he figured was as good a time as any to knock and ask. Being a 5th year as well as a fellow Hufflepuff, he might know.
Before he even got to the Hufflepuff Portrait that guarded the entrance, Fai thought he saw a familiar figure. He blinked, but as soon as he saw it, the person was gone. Was he going nuts? "Hey!" He called out, darting off after (what he hoped was) the spikey haired teen, following him down the corridor.

Kuro had nowhere to hide in this corridor. It was plain and had no dark corners or doorways he could slip into to hide from the blonde. He kept on walking like he hadn't heard him. He walked a little faster hoping to get round the corner before the Blonde saw where he went.

A little frown marred Fai's usually cheerful features when the person didn't stop. Even if it wasn't Kurogane, usually being yelled at made people at least pause to look around....and it wasn't like Fai hadn't been loud enough. "Kuro-sama??" he called as he skidded around the corner and caught another glimpse of the Hufflepuff...or rather the robes that swished around the corner at the end of this corridor. What the hell?
"Kuro-rin, I don't want to play chase today!" he berated as he ran after the young man. He was hoping that Kurogane was just being his usual grumpy self, and not that something was wrong....but something definatly felt off.

Kuro silently patted himself on the back for getting around the corner before Fai reached it, but heard Fai call after him. He must of spotted him he cursed walking faster hearing the blonde's footsteps dashing down the corridor behind him. Turning into another one that was halfway down the corridor.
"Damnit," cussed Kurogane noticing that he'd turned into a dead end, turned back the way he'd come and headed forward again turning the corner without looking.

There was no way that the person hadn't heard him, yet he'd gotten no response....Fai's worry increased. Yes, Kurogane was never overly thrilled about seeing him - he loved to tease the man, wind him up and see the sparks fly....but usually he was tolerated to a degree, especially when he stopped teasing and started helping Kurogane with whatever spell seemed to be going wrong. He kept hurrying down, but was now unsure of where the darkhaired man had gotten to.
At least, until he crashed into him, coming out from one of the passages on the left. "Owwww...." he whined as they hit the floor. He winced, untangling himself from the person he'd flattened "...Sorry...." he then realised who it was and blinked, looking relieved. "It is you, Kuro-rin!"

Kurogane winced and stood up, Rubbing the back of his head seems as he'd landed on the bottom. Grumbling he stood up and realised that Fai had caught up with him.
"Can't you take a hint," grumbled Kuro dusting his robes off, he scowled but it lost some of its effect because his eyes were red and he looked exhausted.

Kuros eyes are always red )) Fai had been about to offer Kuro a hand up, but the man got himself up. At the words, Fai's smile faltered a fraction, but only for a brief moment before he was sunshine and smiles again. "Silly Kuro-tan, if i gave up every time you tried to avoid me, we'd never speak, ne?" he teased gently, but then he noticed how tired the man was and how weak the scowl seemed to be, and he became more serious. "I haven't heard from you at all since we left....is there something wrong?" usually after a few letters (and on one ocassion in 3rd year, he thought it would be funny to send the boy a howler, designed to follow the man around whilst it screeched about how bored and lonely Fai was, and that Kurotan was being incredibly mean to not reply, how was Fai supposed to cope and other melodramatic stuff) he got some kind of reply, even if it was a note that said 'Leave me alone' (thats the edited version).

"Nothing," snapped Kuro moving past him, he wanted to be alone. Telling fai would probably make him loose control again. Like he did when he was alone and he started thinking about them. He kept telling himself to stop but most of the time he couldn't stop the tears once they started.

Fai was accustomed to the taller teens lack of manners, and often gruff and snappy nature...but there was something about the way he looked, how he held himself, even how quick he was to snap that told Fai it wasn't 'nothing' at all. He frowned a little, reaching out to lightly grab Kuroganes arm as he pushed past. ".....if it was nothing, you wouldn't be running away....what happened?" even he had the sense to realise that something pretty major must have happened...family fall out maybe...divorce....perhaps even a grandparent died or something, but whatever it was, it definatly wasn't 'nothing'.

"I cant..." Said Kuro facing away from the blonde, he wasn't going to let anyone see him cry. A boy crying wasn't very manly, and Kuro had been brought up hiding his emotions. It had all been part of his training with his father and he was almost good at hiding his emotions... apart from anger maybe.
He clenched his fists tightly a little blood slipping through his fingers.

The words sounded weak, strained and nothing like the Kurogane that Fai knew. He was always so full of fire and determination (and anger)...worry flooded the blondes usually happy features, something that didn't happen often, and he gripped the mans arm a little tighter. Noting the clenched fists, and knowing that the man was likely to lash out, he stopped prodding for information and settled on trying to be supportive. He simply said softly "......I want to help....even if all i can do is listen....or let you yell at me or something...."

Kuro looked at him obviously fighting to keep the tears back, he was shaking. Trying so hard to keep the emotions back. He pulled his hand away moving to sit against the wall in the dead end. Still shaking staring at the blood on his hands from clenching his fists.
"There gone," was all he said.

The blonde was shocked when he saw the young mans face and glimpsed something he never ever thought he would see; Kurogane looked like he was going to cry. Never in the 4 years that they'd been friends had he seen Kurogane distressed, and that shook him too. "Kuro...." the name trailed off as Kurogane moved to sit down, saying two simple words. They're gone.
Fai's eyes widened a little and he shifted to crouch down, back resting against the main coridor wall, on the corner opposite to the wall that Kurogane was sitting against. He was out the way enough not to crowd the teen, but he was in sight so he could provide some support if needed. Gone could mean a few things, but even in the ambiguity of the statement, Fai recognised the grief. They were gone, like his brother was gone. "....They?" he asked softly, dreading the answer....all he could do was hope that 'they' were not who Fai suspected.
