"Hmmm...I like Fenris better. It's a nicer name than the kids at my old school gave me." Her smile disappeared and her hair once more dropped to shield her face, memories flitting about in her mind.

Fenris stood and toched her should in a brotherly way. "We all have obstacles." He whispered. After a while, he looked at her. "Please don't be sad. I...I don't like when my friends are sad..."

Violet blinked down at him, her eyes wide. "F-f-f-friend? R-really?"

Fenris nodded. He'd finally gotten her to smile. "Of course. Birds of a feather stick together, right?" He offered his hand.

"Yes. Right. I suppose they do." She reached her hand down to grasp his and shake it, grinning. She had made a new friend! They could...they could... "So, um, what does one do with a friend?"

Fenris paused. Had she not had a friend before either. He'd managed to get a few friends at Hogwarts... But they mostly did weird things. Like... hit on girls.... And that was hardly appropriate with Violet along. He thought for a moment. " We could... Go for a walk? And see if we can stir up any trouble?"

"Sure, sounds fun; so long as we don't get caught." Violet smiled down at him, then pushed herself into a sitting position. Grabbing onto a slightly lower branch, she swung herself down to the ground. Dusting off her hands, she turned to Fenris. "Where to?"

He knew exactly where they should go. And, hopefully, Violet would like it. He began walking. "Have you ever seen a Unicorn?"

Violet followed after him, shaking her head. "No, not in person. I've heard they're beautiful though. But, aren't they only found in the Forbidden Forest around here?" She gave the dark trees a nervous glance.

Fenris smiled. "I wouldn't take you into the Forbidden Forest. I've only been there once myself. But there's a clearing, that well... You'll see." He winked and kept walking. He liked having someone to share things with. He'd had a little sister, but she had displayed full magical ability at the young age of five. Their grandparents had taken her then, and the few times that she ever came to visit she was completely uninterested in her older brother, or anyone else for that matter.

"Oh, that's fine then." She smiled back, still a little cautious with Fenris' vague answer. Between the two of them, they didn't have enough spell ability to take down a small harmless creature, let alone whatever might breed in that forest. Violet turned her attention away from the trees and back to the Slytherin. "So...I suppose friends usually try to get to know each other, so how about you tell me a little something about you or your family? Other than the whole "talks to wolves" thing which I think is pretty neat. Oh, but you don't have to get too personal if you don't want to." She looked down at her feet, hoping she hadn't made a mistake in topic choice.

Fenris shrugged. "I was raised by Squibs. I imagine it's kind of like being raised by Muggles, only you are fully aware of the magical world, and your family's place in it, which is to say very low on the chain of wizard families." He sighed.
"My younger sister is a fabulously good witch. She was adopted by my mother's parents, so that she could be raised in a magical household. I rarely see Varania. She's on her first year at Beaubatons, I believe." He didn't really seem sad that he was sharing this with Violet, just sad about the situation in general. "My grandparents didn't even want her going to the same school as me. They predict that I'll be a Squib. But at least I can do SOME magic."
He offered another sigh, then looked at her. "What about you? It's obvious why I'm distrustful and avoiding of the world, but what about Ms. Violet Parr?"

Violet was silent for a moment, taking in everything that Fenris had told her, swirling it around in her mind and letting it soak. Finally, she collected her own childhood memories and spoke. "I was the oldest child born into an all-magical family. We lived in a wizarding community, but it was so small, most of us kids had to go to the local muggle school.
"Growing up with muggles, that's all I wanted to be. They were normal; they had tvs and phones and computers and such. But when I tried to be with them, they turned me away because I was strange and they knew my family was strange. I blame my dad for that- he brings home all sorts of crazy magical devices he collects from his job. Then, the magical kids found out that I wanted to be a muggle, and they made fun of me as well. I have two younger brothers; one has a much higher magical potential than I do, and the other one is still just a baby, so my family paid more attention to them. It got to the point where I just wanted to be invisible all the time.
"When I got the letter, the only reason I came was because it was a way to start over; not be treated weirdly by everyone I met. But I still find myself unconsciously fading into the background a lot." Violet laughed softly, but it didn't have much humor behind it.

Fenris nodded. "Pretty similar, I guess. Just in different situations." He sighed. "But, hey. It's people like us that become the Ministers of Magic and things like that." He thought for a second. "You'd also make an excellent Astronomy Professor."

"Yes, eerily so." She laughed. "You think so? I'm not sure I'd make a good teacher. But from what I've heard so far, you wouldn't do wrong with a career in Care of Magical Creatures." Violet looked around. They had walked a fair distance already, and the forest was getting closer. "How much farther is this clearing?"
