Glancing around to check for other people and seeing none, Anri slipped out of her outer robes, shoes, and socks. She the proceeded to step towards the lake.

Shion popped her head out of the water just enough so that her eyes may be seen. She swam in circles as Anri stepped into the water. "Look, Anri-chan, I'm the dreaded giant squid!" she exclaimed, her mouth now out of the water as well.

Anri giggled at Shion's antics, and then shivered as she submerged herself in the water. "Ah!" she cried out jokingly, "I'm being attacked by the giant squid!"

Shion sprang out at Anri, but didn't actually tackle her, she only grabbed onto her ankle gently. "Ah-ha! I have you, girl! You are now my prey!" She laughed; games like these always made her smile, and made her temporarily forget her past.

Shion was grinning, even underwater, as she held on to Anri. She had a loose grip, so that her friend could go for air if she needed it. She then popped her head out of the murky water, spewing some water into the air like a whale. "Isn't this fun?"

Laughing, Anri nodded as she burst above the surface. "We should... do this again... sometime!" she said between gasps.

"We should!" she agreed excitedly. She flopped back int the water, and swam out a little farther, into deeper water.

Treading water, Anri looked on as Shion swam off. Thinking for a moment, she followed after the girl. "Wait for me!"

Shion stopped for a moment, wading in the water as Anri caught up to her. "You're not afraid of deep water, are you?"

Deep water? Well, she didn't feel afraid... "It doesn't make a difference if it's 6 or 100 feet of water. I can't feel the bottom either way." With that, she dove underwater, looking around the dim depths.

"Awesome!" she exclaimed, before diving down as well. She looked around briefly, but the water was so murky, she had no hope of seeing the bottom.
Suddenly, she felt a fast movement in the water behind her, and something brushed her leg. She popped up, laughing, and turned to look for Anri. However, her friend was not there. "Anri-chan?"

Something flickered by in the water, only centimeters from her face. Whipping her head around, her eyes widened and her mouth opened in a silent scream at what she saw.

She heard bubbling from her left, and looked to see just that; lots of bubbles. "Anri-chan!!" she cried, before diving down after her friend. However, she didn't get far, before hitting something rubbery and slick. Her eyes shot open, and she screamed as well. A giant squid?!

Anri felt the tentacles as they curled around her legs and chest. This was bad on two different levels. The first was the fact that she could die. The second...
