It was heading towards evening, classes had finished for the day and Fai couldn't concentrate enough to do his homework. He had given up, shoving his books into his trunk and instead headed out for a walk on the grounds, with a minor detour via the kitchen.
Now he stood at the bottom of a steep hill, on the edge of the forest - in the distance he could see the school, the bridge he had crossed to get here, and the whimping willow. Closer was the grounds keepers hut, but Fai had taken care to avoid being seen. A little more wandering and he found the place he'd been looking for. He gave a sad smile, rummaging in his bag and chucking out some chunks of meat he'd begged from the House Elves in the kitchen.
Emerging from the shadows were skeletal horses; Theastrals. This was his second Birthday 'tradition' (the first being sneaking to the owlery and waiting for the letter from his adoptive father). After it was apparent that few people could see these beasts, Fai had researched and found that to see them, you had to have witnessed death first hand. After that, he went looking for them...it was a reminder of what he'd lost....and on his birthday...their birthday....it made him feel a little closer to his brother.

Celty wandered slowly down to see the thestrals, one of them had taken a particular liking to her when she was still a first year and she usually visited them everyday. Today, however, she realized that she was not alone in her special sanctuary. Another student had ventured into the forbidden forest. Carefully, she tapped him on the shoulder, quickly writing a greeting. "Hello. What are you doing here? Who are you?" Her quill flashed through the air, leaving it's trail of smoky letters behind.

Fenris had been doing his routine visit to the wolves in the Forbidden Forest, and was leaving when he saw them. A beautifulheard of creatures stood before him, black skeletons of horses with a Dragon's thick, leathery wings.
How had he never seen these creatures before? They were wonderous!
He strode towards them, and noticed two students he didn't know. Trying to avoid their sight, he walked up to the nearest animal. THey were friendly enough, and it let him pet its strange, bony neck.
{{OCC: So weird this thread started. I was literally about to start a thread this morning where Fenris met Thestrals.}}

A younger more adventurous theastral stepped forward, snapping the meat up. Fai was preoccupied watching then, chucking another peice of meat to the boney foal, and hadnt noticed that he wasn't alone.
Until a figure stepped into view (he only noticed the one)...he did a double take, eyes widening at the unusual student in front of him. Of course, fai had seen her around; this one was hard to miss, what with not having a head. He gulped a little, and tried to get his thoughts together to answer the smokey question written in front of him.
"i'm Fai Flowright....i always come here on my...." he stopped...he'd nearly given her the real reason, so startled by the girls appearance. "at this time of year." he finished lamely. "what about you?"

"I'm a student." She knew he would react like this, everyone reacted badly when they saw a headless girl walking through the halls. He may not realize it, but she could clearly see his expressions and she could also tell that he wasn't telling her everything. "Is today special for somereason?"

Despite having seen her around, it was very hard not to be surprised at seeing the girl up close. He had the sudden urge to wave his hand through the inky smoke rising from where her head should be, but he thought that might be a little rude. Trying to recover, Fai just smiled "I figured, from the uniform....i meant, what's your name?" he saw the second question as it formed and waved a hand dismissively "How come you're down here anyway?" he distracted with more questions, keeping the smile in place.

"My name is Celty. I came down here because I like seeing the Thestrals. I met them in my first year." Celty took a small offering of meat and a fee apples and tossed the food toward the black creatures.

"Ahh" Fai replied, watching the girl as she fed the beasts too. He had many questions that he would have loved to ask, but most of them seemed far too personal for someone he had only just met. Besides, he didn't like people prying in his business, so he tried to avoid it with others as much as possible (Appart from Kurogane....but that was a whole other mess that he was trying to avoid thinking about). So instead of asking things like 'What happened to your head?' or 'How are you still alive?' or even 'So, who did you see die?' he went with a simple explanation of why he was here "I noticed them in my second year as they pulled the carriages to the Castle, but no one else I was with seemed to see them so I tried to prove they were real." he gave a slightly sad smile "...It's not an easy thing to prove."

"Not at all. Unless you wish to kill a person in front of the entire school." She paused for a moment, considering this, her pen hanging in the air. "No, that would be a bad idea. I suppose no one else will believe us even then." She didn't really care if anyone else saw the thestrals, she just wanted to make conversation.

Fai gave a slightly nervous laugh "Indeed...." he figured that she was joking, but coming from a girl with no head, it put him on edge a little. He tried to stay calm and friendly though...usually he was pretty indiscriminate about friends (or, rather people that he liked to pester). "Actually, plan A was showing them a book from the library....that would have been Plan B though, if I was really bothered by being called crazy." he joked, though it was weak...talk of killing people was something that made Fai tense, even though he knew it was stupid in the current situation. There was only one reason they were both able to see them, and death was it.

"I see. Well, being called crazy is the least of my worries." Inside her own mind, she was Laughing at the irony of her statement. But on the outside it was hard to tell what she was feeling .

Fenris had watched them, and was quite intrigued by the girl with no head. And, also, who they'd seen die. But that wasn't really something you asked people when you first met them. Eventually, however, it would probably going to come up anyway.
He walked around his Thestral, waving slightly to them. "I gave up on whether or not people thought I was crazy a long time ago. When you can talk fluently to wolf packs... People just tend to avoid you."

Celty was not surprised in the least at Fenris' sudden appearance, just the fact that he had chosen to reveal himself. "You can talk to wolves??" This seemed interesting, and she was eager to hear his story, if he would tell it.

Fenris nodded. "It's pretty easy, when you spend all your time with them. There's a pack in the forests outside my house. I was really young when they first took residence there. I met the the Alpha male, and he didn't challenge me. Eventually he let me approach the pack. Soon I visited them regularly, and helped watch over the pups while the mothers were out hunting. I was pretty comfortable with them, and by the time that I got my letter from Hogwarts, I was fluent in their grunts and howls."

"Interesting. Does Dr. Kishitani know? I'm sure he would like to examine this phenomena." One of the things Celty hated from her childhood was the way she had become able to detach herself from emotion in times like these and simply think in a scientific manner. That was how she had managed to love through the insane experiments that had tormented her body. "I wonder if your brain is more highly developed than most human's brains..." She was internally trying to bring her mins back to a normal thought process, pulling away from toughts of frontal lobes and brain development. "Sorry, that was awkward and rude."
