Too quickly for Edge's liking, the song ended. He'd enjoyed dancing with Shion. Something about being around her made him feel... different. He didn't have to be the mysterious quirky ninja most people knew him as. He could take off his mask and feel comfortable around her. He stole a quick glance at a nearby clock. "Ten seconds, eh..." He looked at Shion, and suddenly life went into slo-mo.
10...9...8... He walked towards her.
7...6...5... He swept her into his arms.
4...3...2... "Happy New Year."
1... His lips met hers in what was quite possibly the best second of his life.

Shion was excitedly calling out the numbers, not really aware of what Edge was doing, let alone thinking. "Ten, nine, eight!!" she giggled, "Seven, six, fi-IVE!" she squealed as Edge took her into his arms, "E-Edge?" she stuttered, her wide eyes searching his face.
And then their lips met. And she was silent.
It was her first kiss. Ever. She hadn't even kissed Satoshi before, who was her first love. So many emotions wracked her body at once; but mostly fear.
Shion held onto him for an extra moment, and let her eyes fall closed.

After what felt like an eternity, Edge pulled away. He looked at the girl he was holding in his arms-
...
OHCRAPHEKISSEDSHION.
He stepped back and blushed furiously, unsure of what to do. Should he apologize? Run away? Kiss her again? He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

Shion, having practically melted in his arms, wasn't prepared for his sudden release.
She toppled to the ground in a heap.
Groaning, she looked up at him, blushing furiously. "Well, that was a fine way to start the year."

Edge quickly rushed to help Shion up, his face red as a tomato. "S-sorry..." He managed to stutter. "I'm not really sure why I did that..." He looked away nervously, still completely lost on what to do.
"Although I did like it..." He muttered to himself.

Shion brushed some hair from her face, and began to brush off her bottom. "That was... nice..." she mumbled. Her insides were certainly on fire over it. Her heart pounded, and she managed to force her eyes on him. "Edge..."

At hearing his name, Edge looked at Shion. He had no idea as to why he'd just kissed her, but damn it, he didn't regret it. Even if he felt like a storm had just jumbled around inside of him. "Shion..." He stared right at her, and something clicked in his head. He cared about this girl. A lot. He hesitantly stepped forward, unsure if she felt the same about him.

Shion took a step forward as well. For once, Satoshi, nor Masaomi, crossed her mind. No, everything about her was on Edge (lolonedge). She held out her hand to him, not really sure of what else to do. She was so... light. She felt like she had with Satoshi at one time, but this was someone else. Someone alive. Someone actually here, in front of her.

Edge took Shion's hand in his own, intertwining their fingers. He brushed a bit of stray hair from Shion's face, his eyes completely transfixed on her. Slowly, he leaned in and gently placed a kiss on her lips. It wasn't anything long, just a quick graze of his lips on hers, but to him it meant so much more. He smiled sheepishly and looked away, his blush returning.

Shion gladly accepted the soft kiss, returning with her own. When they separated, she smiled up at him, giggling like a madwoman. "My first kiss..." She gently placed a hand on his cheek, and guided him to look back at her.

Edge smiled nervously. "Well, I suppose that makes two of us..." He looked at his hand, clutching Shion's, then back at her. He sighed lightly. "So... Where does this leave us? Are we... Y'know, an item?" He stared into Shion's eyes, unsure of what was coming next.

Shion laughed, and nodded her head. "Yes, I think so."
She was almost glowing. Never before had she been so happy. Maybe this year would be different than all the others. Maybe she could have a new beginning...
But what would Edge say if he knew about her past?
She shook away the thought, and wrapped her arms around Edge's neck, gazing up into his eyes.

Edge's face practically lit up as the full realization hit him. Him. And Shion. He laughed and picked Shion up, twirling around in joy. "Ohmygod, I'm your boyfriend!" He set her down, grinning. "Oh, you have no clue how happy I am!" He wrapped his arms around her waist, just enjoying being with her. "Best. New Year's. Ever." He stared down at Shion, his heart aching with unabridled joy.

Shion was equally as joyful; she squealed and laughed as he twirled her around, and she embraced him more. She had someone to love, who would return it. Finally. She didn't even realize she had feelings for Edge; she had always just picked on him with her flirting. When did she actually start flirting? Maybe...
"The attack." she thought aloud. She looked over Edge's face, her smile widening. "You saved me. You protected me. I think... I think that's when I realized.. how I felt for you..." She buried her face into his chest, just taking it all in.

Edge looked down at Shion, his mind flying back to that night. "I was lost that night. It wasn't until I saw you in danger that I really realized what you meant to me. In fact, if it weren't for our study session that one time in the library, I doubt my patronus would've appeared." He sighed and looked down at the girl in his arms, a smile forming on his face. "That, and being genderbent. I say this with all the faith I have in my sexuality. You were one good-looking guy." He chuckled.
