Fai looked worried....he really wanted to help. He didn't like seeing Kurogane down, and he himself had some slightly selfish reasons for keeping the Hufflepuff with him. He wanted to see the new year in with someone, so that he didn't feel alone too. It would be the first year that he didn't visit his brothers grave at Christmas and New Years....he felt guilty about it, but he had thought Kuroganes needs were greater than his own. This was the first Christmas Kurogane would spend without his family...the first new year alone...and Fai had thought that if he could help ease that lonliness even a little, giving up his own holiday rituals would be worth it.
But, if he made no difference at all, not only had he failed his boyfriend, but he would have abandoned his brother for no reason. "Don't....please stay." he tried to keep the slight desperation out of his voice, though he had grabbed Kuroganes arm quick enough to betray that something wasn't right. Though Kurogane knew nothing of Fai's own losses, and the Ravenclaw didnt plan on revealing it.

Kurogane was suprised when Fai swiflty grabbed his arm, he looked down at the blonde. Seeing the look on his face he sat down looked at him with a questioning look.
"What? Whats wrong?" his own pain forgotten obviously concerned by the look Fai was giving him.

Fai was surprised that Kurogane sat back down, and more surprised that Kurogane had seen what he'd been trying to hide. It seemed that he was slipping. "Nothing's wrong." he lied, putting on a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "....It's so close to midnight.....just stay a little longer. Please?" he really didn't want to go into why, he just hoped Kurogane could bare just another 7 minutes in his company without too many questions.

Kuro narrowed his eyes at him, he could tell Fai was hiding something. He glanced at the clock it really was almost time for the new year to start. He sat down and watched the minutes tick down. Soon it was only a minute to go.

Fai avoided Kuroganes gaze, summoning a pitcher of some kind of alcohol. It settled on the table with a thunk, and Fai poured himself some, downing it swiftly. The second glass he drunk slower, after he realised his head was swimming a little.
He looked around; the other couple had been dancing...but as the music quieted, and the commentator on the radio announced it was only a minute to go they stopped too, speaking quietly to one another. Fai's gaze shifted to his drink....he suddenly felt stupid. Kurogane didn't want to be here....he shouldn't have forced him to stay. Still he tried to put on a smile....30 seconds and the guilt would go away....Kurogane would be free to go.
Too soon, the countdown begane. 10. He finally raised his eyes to look at Kurogane. 9. The Hufflepuff wasn't exactly someone who liked public displays of affection....8. But Fai wanted to make him feel better...and ease his own loneliness as well as Kuros 7. He hesitantly reached across the table, fingers gently resting on Kuroganes arm 6. He looked nervous, biting his lip 5.....he leaned a little closer.....4. He resisted the urge to sit on Kuroganes lap "...three...two...one..." he joined the countdown softly. Before he could chicken out, Fai leant in and placed a kiss on Kuroganes lips

Kurogane watched fai silently, sighing when he downed a drink. Getting drunk wouldnt stop kuro from asking questions. But the announcer started the coutdown kuro looked away from fai the lonely thoughts coming back.
He looked back at fai when he felt his hand on his arm, he looked down at it then up at fai who leaned forward and planted a kiss on him. He blushed eyes closing as he responded to it, after a moment he remembered other people were in the room. Blushing more he pulled back cheecks slightlt flushed, panting breathless from the suprise kiss.
"What was that for," he said obviously embaressed.

Fai was a little surprised when Kurogane responsed favourably. He smiled when the Hufflepuff puled back, cheeks pink but looking happier than he had before. "Silly Kuro-tan....it's a new years tradition to kiss at midnight." He gave Kuroganes arm a gentle squeeze before pulling away. "It's a muggle tradition...like singing Auld Lang Syne...." he trailed off, because he was pretty sure that Kurogane wouldn't know that one.
He just smiled instead of explaining British muggle traditions to someone who was raised halfway across the world, in a Wizarding family "....thankyou...for staying..."

Kurogane blinked obviously confused by what Fai was trying to explain to him. Kurogane blushed some more when Fai thanked him, picking up his drink to take a large swig. Unsure what to say to the thanks.
Kurogane heard fireworks going off, glancing away from Fai to glance at the the people in the room, wondering if they had seen the kiss or not.

fai chuckled a little. The other two were wrapped up in their own new years celebrations...and pretty soon they were out the door, sneaking off. He tookanother swig, glancing back at kuro ''dont worry...i dont think they saw anything but eachother...your secret is safe.'' he teased. He didnt mind people knowing tht he was gay (it was probably obvious), but he guessed kuro was a little more concerned with his image (he was more macho than fai, admitedly) it didnt bother fai all too much either way...

Kuro noticed the other to leave, shifting to kiss Fai again needily. He pulled back after a while moving to see what other food was on the table and also to get another drink. He'd wandered off to hide yet another blush.
He spent alot of time looking at the different food and picking a few drinks out.

Fai looked a bit shocked by the surprise kiss, but it definatly wasn't unwelcome. When Kurogane pulled away, Fai was breathless and grinning foolishly. Ok, perhaps tonight had been worth it....he was sure his brother would have been happy that he was happy....even if it meant he didn't get his usual visit (which usually involved Fai sitting in the graveyard for an hour or two, chattering away and catching his brother up on everything....he liked to think that maybe, even if he couldnt answer, his brother heard him. And was probably rolling his eyes if spirits can, and silently asking him to shut up.)
Taking another swig of his drink, Fai watched Kuro be embaressed and spend forever chosing food and drink. He was grateful that the Hufflepuff hadn't pushed him into answering questions. At least now it was just the two of them, so they could relax a bit. He wondered if he could pester kuro into dancing....but he doubted they had enough alcohol for that.

Kuro had a few shots while he was at the table, seeming a little more drunk by the time he came back over with enough food for both of them. Placing the food on the table, then moved to sit down. Almost sitting on Fai's knee but managed to sit on the seat beside him. Picking at the food he had brough over, after setting his drink close to hand.
He glanced at Fai, looking into his blue eyes but he remained silent for now.

fai watched as kurogane tried to hide his embaressment by downing shots. He smiled into his drink, noticing how kuro wobbled a little and nearly into his lap. He glanced sideways at kurotan and leant a little closer to steal some food from the plate. There was plenty of food, he figured kuro wouldnt mind. "ne, kurorin...are you drunk?" he teased with a wicked little grin.

"No i'm not," he grumped words slurring a bit. He watched fai steal food and watched as he slipped it into his mouth, eyeing fai's lips. He blushed looking away realising he was staring, alcohol made him feel down.... but apparently it had aut apparently it had another side effect. He suddenly wished he had some more shots, he glanced to the drinks table, then at fai. Fai had seen him get drunk before saw how depressed he got and wondered if fai would stop him from drinking anymore. He finished the drink he'd brought over with him then stood to go get another wondering if fai would try and stop him.

Fai smirked as Kurogane slurred his words. Not drunk....yet...but he was getting there. He caught the Hufflepuff staring, and quirked an eyebrow, licking his fingers clean just to be a tease. He took another drink, watching the other student drink and slowly realising something. He had considered it a little earlier when Kurogane had gone to leave, but the New Years kiss had broken the train of thought. He reached out to grab Kuroganes hand to stop him from getting to the table "Maybe it's not such a good idea....you'll have a hangover in the morning..." he danced around the real issue, feeling like a coward for not being able to say what he knew he should.
